How come my Patriot Xporter USB flash driver is not recognized by Windows 98?

That is because Windows 98 requires drivers for all USB Flash Drives. If you can go to our support site and download the windows98 driver for the x-porter that should solve the problem. Remember when you installing the driver to keep the x-porter out of the usb port. You will also need a program to unzip the driver that you have downloaded.

Why can't I transfer files over 4GB to or from my usb flash drive?

Patriot Flash drives come formatted default as Fat. In order to transfer files over 4GB you would need to format it to NTFS. To do so, first - Open My Computer. Right click on the USB drive, Select Properties, Select the Hardware Tab, Select the USB device, Click the Properties button, Select Policies, Select Optimize for Performance, Click OK, Second - Right click on the Drive, Select Format, Select the NTFS format option.

Where can I find drivers for my USB Flash drive?

Patriot Memory USB Flash drives should be complete plug and play (with the exception of Windows 98 SE). You should be able to find the USB drivers for your motherboard on a cd/dvd that came with your system or at your motherboard manufacturer's website under a support/download section. Look for chipset drivers.

Why is my USB Flash drive reporting a different capacity than advertised?

Because the file management system and system files will take some capacity, the available capacity is smaller than the announced density. There can be a 10% variation due to NAND, Controller, Firmware and ECC.

Is there a way for me to Password protect my usb flash drive?

Unfortunately, we do not offer any password protection tools for our flash drives. You would need to "encrypt" your flash drive in order to do so. You should be able to fine plenty of free usb encryption tools available on the Internet.

Why doesn't Readyboost work?

The Readyboost feature is host-dependant meaning the overall performance can depend on the particular system you have. Because ReadyBoost stores its cache as a file rather than directly using the flash device in a raw manner, that file system must be mounted and assigned a drive letter. Simply mounting as a subfolder of another drive won't suffice, as only the root folder of a drive is suited for ReadyBoost cache otherwise the ReadyBoost tab will not appear in the logical volume properties, nor will any previously created cache file be used.

My USB flash drive died, is there a way for you to retrieve the data?

Unfortunately we do not have any methods of data-retrieval. If data needs to be extracted from a drive we would would recommend sending it in to a data retrieval lab as they would have the specialized tools to do so.

Why does my usb drive work with Vista and Windows 7 but not Windows XP?

Some Higher capacity Patriot drives come formatted into exFAT.

What are the supported file format for Readyboost? What is the maximum capacity I can use?

ReadyBoost for Vista supports NTFS, FAT16 and FAT32 with a maximum of 4GB, and can use one device. Readyboost for Winodws 7 supports all of the above including exFAT with a maximum of 256GB.

How many devices can I use for Readyboost?

The initial release of ReadyBoost for Windows Vista supports one device. Windows 7 supports up to eight flash drives (for a maximum of 256 GB of additional memory) for ReadyBoost.

How much capacity should I use for Readyboost?

Microsoft recommends the amount of flash memory for ReadyBoost acceleration be one to three times the amount of random access memory (RAM) in your computer. This recommendation should not be confused with the message that is displayed in the ?ReadyBoost? tab of drive properties dialog: for example, for a flash drive of 16 GB capacity formatted as FAT32 it will display a message that ?Windows recommends reserving 4094 MB for optimal performance? even if RAM size is 10 GB, just because 4094 MB is the maximum file size on a FAT32 volume; after reformatting it as NTFS or exFAT, the message changes to ?Windows recommends 15180 MB?.

I formatted my flash drive to NTFS, why doesn't my Mac recognize it?

Mac systems do not recognize NTFS and only fat format. You'll need to format it back to fat through a PC.

Will my flash drive lose performance if I format it it to NTFS?

Yes, fat the default file format, is the best suited file type in terms of performance for our USB Flash drives. If you are concerned about performance, we would not recommend to convert the file type to NTFS. We would only recommend this in converting larger files. (>4GB)

I just bought one of your Extreme Performance Flash Drives and I noticed there is discrepancy between the warranty terms. Is it 5 years or lifetime?

For Drives purchased after January 31, 2011 the warranty term is 5 years. For Drives purchased prior to January 31, 2011 will still carry lifetime or 5-year warranties.

Do your flash drives support wear leveling?

Yes, all of our flash drives support wear leveling.

How do I insert my Flex Drive in a usb port? Do I need some sort of special adapter?

The Flex has a different housing than traditional usb with the metal tip. However, you can simply insert it in the usb slot. The correct orientation would be aligning the gold contacts of the Flex Drive with the Gold contacts of any usb port.

Why doesn't my Swing drive work on my Mac?

Try positioning the drive from the cover into an 'L' shape or perpendicular to the insert tip.
