Hello, I received my Torqx 128 a few months ago. I do not know what firmware it had at that time. I installed Windows 7x64 without a single problem.
This weekend I decided to reload windows and decided to do the Firmware 1881 update at the same time. I did not know till just now reading the Forum that I could have updated the SSD connected via USB. However, I had NUMEROUS issues with the firmware update. I connected it to a winows xp machine (service pack 3) via one of the sata ports. First, it was not seen, then it was seen but could be accessed, then it was accessible but windows saw the drive as an unformatted drive. It would then try to format the 128gig drive to 131 gigs. This process would then lock up windows. I then connected the SSD to a Windows Vista x64 machine and received the exact same results. I then brought it back to my primary machine. I connected a spare HD to my machine and installed Windows XP to that HD. I then had no problem seeing and updating the firmware to the SSD then. The updater reported success. I then disconnected the HD and began to reload the Windows 7x64 OS on to the SSD. The OS loaded fine, and the system rebooted after the file install. Upon reboot, the screen would black (led is green tho) and the HD LED would stay unlit. And, it would sit there like that. It would never go in to the final Windows Installation screens. Thinking I might have screwed up my SSD, I thought maybe something up with..... something. I then installed XP on to the SSD. That installation went without a single problem. Loaded up fine and finished the installs correctly. I went back to Win7 and again was greeted with the black screen before the final installation. I could get windows to get in to Safe Mode but once there, I get a message that says, windows can't finish the install while in safe mode, and then the machine reboots. Any ideas folks? |

The easiest thing to do would be to go back to previous version of the firmware. If the drive continues to trouble you, consider an RMA.
Would have to know more about the XP and Vista machine's hardware to consider why the drives didn't not initialize properly. Patriot_Ben said 1916 is due out any week now. |

Ok. Thanks for everyone who looked at my issue. I figured it out.
I have two Nvidia video cards. One a GX285 and a 9800 (physx engine). When I first installed Windows 7, I only had the 285 card. For some reason, Windows 7 does not like to have more than one video card installed during OS installation. Weird to say the least. However, I still find it troubling the issues I had with updating my SSD's firmware. |
