This is dated 4-10-09. I wonder if it's the 1571 we are all using or if it's the 17XX series I have heard about. If so the 17XX had some problems and was pulled I think.

Oh, cool. I must have missed that. Maybe we are going to see some updates. Thanks for the correction.

Default Other firmware development

I have been lurking around some of the other SSD mfg forums (exact same drive, different label) and I have been reading that they are currently testing a beta firmware from Indilinx that is purported to solve the issues many of us are having with the late 2009 MBPs. I am wondering if Patriot Ben can comment on the actual existence of said firmware and if we will see it released anytime soon for our Patriot Torqx drives. The flow of knowledge in the other forums with respect to firmware updates is much better and quite active.

I have had 2 drive "fail" in my 13" MacBook pro within 2 months. I am currently waiting for my 3rd drive to be replaced via an open RMA with Patriot and I don't want to continue this cycle without changing the firmware on either my computer or the drive.

I am not convinced that it is a hardware issue. I believe the problem lies directly in the firmware, either from Apple or Indilinx. I have read rumors of new firmwares comming out to fix this issue but only time will tell. Until then I will have a nice new Torqx SSD sitting in a box waiting.

Did you read that thread about downgrading your MacBook's "firmware"?

Yes, I have downgraded the firmware to EFI 1.6 from 1.7, but this was after the second drive became corrupt. I figured the first was a fluke so that is why I just used the second one as is. After that I started looking around and reading the forums. I downgraded the firmware on the MBP and I am waiting for the drive to come back from RMA. After that I was hoping to see a firmware update on the drive or computer before trying again. From what I have read there are upadates comming for the drive.

I see that competitors with indilinx controllers are getting ready to release their firmware updates. Why are we hearing nothing from Patriot?
