I know what it is. I have used it and hate it. It was just a suggestion. Patriot has the option to use whatever format they would like. .Zip support of just included inside Windows so it would make more sense since you don't need a 3rd party program. Whatever they would like to use is their option. It works fine.

You don't need the firmware. It will work fine. It just improves performance. You can see what firmware you have now with several tools. Crystal Disc info is one. You can find it for free if you search the net for it. Good luck.

My Torqx came yesterday. Heres what I did and it worked great.

Desktop Computer -
One Hard Drive = Vista Home Premium with Firmware update files
Other Drive = Torqx 128GB

Plugged in the Torqx using SATA in factory mode (jumper), The BIOS did not notice the drive (unknown drive), Boot into Vista, 1st thing Vista finds the drive and installs the driver, Ran the start file in the firmware files (RIGHT CLICK > RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR in Vista or it will not find the drive).

Then I let it update and the update itself took 1minute and 30seconds.

I went step by step in the How-to pdf from the website and it went really smooth.

Any plans to roll out a non-destructive, jumper-free flashing app for the Torqx (like *** has for their Barefoot controlled drives?

I'd love to upgrade my firmware (and gain TRIM), but saying the the drive in my laptop is difficult to get to doesn't begin to describe the truth of the matter

Question

I guess I should have said "some competitor." Sorry about that.

Is there any plan to do a non-destructive, jumperless firmware updater? My firmware is out of date because I don't enjoy removing my keyboard and the entire front half of my laptop. Please let me know. Thanks.

No worries, I was going to edit in an explanation due to forum policy.

As of now, we only offer the jumper version of the firmware upgrade. Our Flash engineers have informed me that they'll have an M28 firmware upgrade version now.

I will keep you posted if anything changes and if they hear anything from the SSD vendors.

Thanks for the info. Good to hear about the M28's... it's about time Samsung addressed user upgradable firmware. I'll keep my eyes peeled (and fingers crossed) for a future jumperless Indilinx firmware.

What's the word on the update for the non-M28 Torqx drives and:
> non-destructive flashing
> garbage collection
> native TRIM support

Thanks!
