I'd like to return my torqx m28 drive to the unformatted state that I got it in originally. for some reason, with win7, it keeps remembering some hidden files or format. Is there a way to reset the drive? if not, how can I get rid of everything on it so it looks empty when I install a new win 7 on it

You should use some kind of format (ex. fill by zeros or format in normal mode under DOS) ? i never see this kind of problem (i think in normal Torqx firmware write will remove all data but i'm not sure) also m28 don't have firmware update ?

Like delete the partitions and format the drive? Or doing so has no effect?

Use a program called "Boot 'N Nuke" to boot and nuke.
You can select exactly how you'd like to nuke too.
