Default Hi

firmware updates -> i do in this order -> drive can't be system one, it must be secondary -> shut down machine, put firmware jumper on, turn on machine, start W7 or other at SAFE MODE (it's very important, i have many failures in normal mode), run updater, chose right file to rewrite, after sucess shut down machine and remove jumper, if You have problems, try to change sata port or turn off caching in system for yapadong barefoot (name of drive with firmware jumper on) about instaling win7 64bit, i have this version and do instal on lone raid 0 config (2x64) without any problems, be sure to turn off automatic defragmentation after install

Master1

There are 3 options for firmware updates: 1881, 1819, 1571....how do I know if my new ssd need a firmare update?

Is the 1881 the latest and greatest?

The firmware uses a .zip format, so download it, save it on desktop, then run it?

Are you saying hook up the ssd drive as a slave (keep curent OS drive as master) and then perform firmare update as you described?

where is auto defrag located in win7 64?

Thanks for answering what may be simple questions....jer

primo -> i would reccomend for You to wait for 1916 revision (probably very soon will be avaiable) before run You must unzip file (there is executable file and files for each size models and revisions -> after run executable You must choose right file for Your drive) secundo -> YES this is best and only option (normal drive as master and OS+ssd slave without OS) and defrag -> You must clik right mouse on drive and select properties after that select tool and defrag -> then turn off auto scheduler for drive

fw 1571 is the best so far by far. win 7 64 will not auto defrag a ssd you can set defrag schedule by going to defrag in accessories, system tools, defrag, set schedule

Get away from FW 1571 ASAP.

EDIT: see my post below - Patriot recommends 1881 to fix a short life issue.

Default i agree

with that, performance is only one of the maior ssd pointers, i reccomend to You to wait for 1916, upgrade firmware in Your Torqx and then instal W7 or other OS (firmware should be avaiable in this week i hope)

Easiest way to get to the defragmenter is click the Windows 7 Start button, then type 'defrag' in the search box. Windows 7 generally detected my Torqx as an SSD, but didn't during a couple of my builds, so do make sure defrag is off for the Torqx.

See below Patriot's current FW recommendation:

hey willie you scaremonger why does patriot STILL OFFER the fw 1571 update if its no good? if you want WAY SLOWER performance use fw 1881 after all we all want our FRIGGIN EXPENSIVE SSD'S to under perform thats why we got them in the first place.

if performance is only ONE of the major pointers WHAT then are the other ssd pointers? THE ONLY REASON YOU PAY $400 for a 128gb drive IS FOR PERFORMANCE. right? YES! otherwise you can get 4.5 TERRABYTES for the same price
