    Enjoy!
hey snappy46 i want to try this on stock. if for whatever reason it doesn't work should i just re install the stock firmware as a way to revert back to the original videoplayer or what? or would you advise against installing on stock in the first place?

    EDIT:
looks like i can just select "uninstall updates" from videoplayer in the Applications menu (under settings) and i'm back to the original. i hazzarded the matrix update on stock firmware but as expected it was no dice. great going snappy46 the community salutes you!! the non matrix mod works great on stock.

if you ever decide to make a player i'll be your first customer

Snappy, I find that I am having to reinstall this every time the unit is power cycled. Any ideas, or is this just part of the bug set in the firmware that causes the Alpine to forget the date and any network shares at random reboots?

Again, thank you! You have made this thing usable!

Could you clarify this for me; do you mean that you have to reinstall the VideoPlayer.apk file every time that you turn off your PBO Alpine ???? Which mod (stock VideoPlayer, matrix VideoPlayer) are you using and on which firmware (Stock, matrix).

    Cheers !!!

Hey Snappy, I'm running the most current Matrix Alpha. The apk I am having to reinstall regularly Is the Matrix VideoPlayer. I regularly have to change the date on my unit as well as remap my network drives, so I assume this is a related problem with the Alpine's ability to write to the internal memory.

And yes, it is every time it is powered off an then on.

I must admit that this one still baffles me; the class that display the folder/files list on the screen is the folder_theme class. When I compare the two folder_theme class from the stock and the matrix firmware I can not find any differences that would account for the list being sorted on the stock folder_theme class and not being sorted on the matrix stock folder_theme class. I can replace the folder_theme class on the matrix with the one from the stock folder_theme class and then I can get the folder/files sorted in alphabetic order but I get an error that keeps poping up while I am navigating the folder tree although it does work ok. it's probably some constant/variable that is used by the matrix videoplayer that does not get initialized when I use the folder_theme class from the stock firmware..... Too bad I guess the easy/lazy way won't work; a change to the matrix folder_theme class seems to be the only thing that is going to work. Unfortunately without the source code changes have to be done in assembly language which is a real pain ..... beside I have no idea what changes are required at this time. Since I am going on vacation tommorow for 2 weeks it is very unlikely that I will look at that until I get back.

    Cheers !!!

I try to find time today to have a look to see if this is an isolated thing. Installed application should be permanent; I have another question for you; are you starting videoplayer from the main menu "Video" or do you access it thru the application menu ???? And does it make a difference where the app is ran from ??? It is possible that the link to the app gets broken ???? Not home to check right now but I am definitely intrigue. Unfortunately not much time today and leaving for vacation tommorow.

Thanks for your inputs and bug report.

In order to make your testing as quick as possible, I will summarize exactly what is happening.

    1. Running Matrix Alpha_rev2
    2. Installing VideoPlayer-Matrix.apk from a USB stick (a Patriot XT 8GB - just threw that in to demonstrate my brand loyalty )
    3. Using OI File Manager, installs properly, with no errors.
    4. VideoPlayer.apk is properly modified, starting from both the Home menu and from the Applications menu.
    5. The skin of the VideoPlayer.apk is the blue one with the Patriot logo at the bottom. All titles scroll.
    6. Power down unit (still plugged in)
    7. Power up unit.
    8. Starting VideoPlayer.apk from either the Home menu or the Applications menu, it is no longer modified. The skin is the black one without the Patriot logo.

I want to reiterate that even if I have to reinstall the app every single time, this mod makes the Alpine usable, and I appreciate your work!

Thanks a lot; I'll see if I can duplicate over here and see what the heck is going on. Maybe the VideoPlayer.apk does not replace the old one permanently??? By the way I added the Patriot Logo on the matrix VideoPlayer just to show my loyalty . If the VideoPlayer does not stay permanently then I do not think that this is a viable situation ... well at the very least user should be made aware of that situation.

Thanks again for the comprehensive report.

    Cheers !!!
