I am looking at a new SD cards in an effort to resolve an out of memory error. Does the Alpine support SDHC or the SDXC standard or only SDSC? I'm trying to get the largest capacity card possible.

Hi MJ,
According to the specification SDHC cards up to 32 GB is supported. I am using an SDHC 16 GB card without any problems. I am not sure about SDXC; to be honest I don't even know what they are.
That being said I doubt that adding an SDHC card will resolve your issue with the "out of memory" error since the SD card is only seen as external storage as far as the Android O/S is concerned. The amount of memory RAM I think is 256 MB or could be 512 MB; I can not remember exactly but this is all you'll ever have no matter how big the SD card is.
As far as your "out of memory" error is concerned have you tried the "Reset to factory default" or something like that; I don't have access to my PBO right now to check under the setting options (application I think). See if that resolve your error issue. Beware that you will lose all your settings when you do that.

SDSC = Standard Capacity, SDHC = High Capacity and SDXC = Extended Capacity just in case you're curious.
I was unable to find that specific specification so thanks for that Snappy. I currently have a 256mb SDSC card. I am able to transfer files to and from the SD card in the Alpine so I might upgrade the card as a temporary measure to watch movies.
With regard to the out of memory error, I've reset to factory default and flashed the firmware several times. When I access a network share via samba a network shares window opens and asks for user/password. I leave it blank because I tweaked the registry per our previous conversation/thread seen here:

Anyway, when I enter blank info, that's when the out of memory error appears. Did the same before the workaround too. Can you confirm that the workaround was intended to avoid entering windows login info Snappy?
I've done more searching and found it's not an unheard of error with Samba but most of what I've read relates to other products other than the Alpine. I'm hoping that the next firmware resolves the issue but in the meantime I'll forge ahead hoping that I stumble upon a fix. I'll be sure to post it in glorious fashion if I find one.

The Skyviia 8660; that is the cpu running the PBO Alpine is compatible with the SD 3.0 standard which support SDXC; therefore assuming that all the 22 bit lines are actually connected to the PBO Alpine SD Card socket you might be able to go up to 2 TB using SDXC card. Again the CPU supports it but it does not mean that the hardware does.

Hey there, I can confirm that the Alpine works with a 64GB Patriot EP Series SD card. It came formatted in exFAT which did not work but once i reformatted it with NTFS, BAM, life!
As a strange aside, and with the brand new Alpine firmware installed, I noticed that when playing a movie via the SD card I was able to fast forward all the way up to 64x but while streaming via UPnP (TVersity) I can only fast forward at a maximum of 2x.

i can confirm that quirk. I use Media Tomb which is Linux's version of TVersity and on Media Tomb my max ff is only 2X which is pretty useless, compared to the standard 64X ff.

Thanks for the feedback Marj. Based on your experience I'll try the same series card this weekend. Hopefully I can enjoy the same ff speed.
