    Exclamation Unable to connect to Javalin NAS

    History:
    When I first setup the NAS everything went well for about a month then it started giving red lights and beeping, indicating an encloser error I believe but it wouldn't give me anything specific. I also had problems with it dropping off the network on one of my computers. I tried many different things to solve the red lights and beeping but nothing helped. Recently i removed the hard drives and rebooted the NAS again and after replacing the drives now I no longer get any red lights or beep errors. Horray, except now I cannot even access my NAS.

    Problem:
    When connecting to the NAS using the dashboard I "click here to refresh" and login using the admin/admin default account and get this message;
    "The network setting of your NAS machine is not correct. Please use the setup wizard to fix it. Restart your NAS machine if this happened repeatedly."
    I cannot connect using the internet brower via the IP address. Not even adding /admin/ to the end of the IP address helps. So i run the setup wizard using the defaults. It appears to be "configuring" the nas and returns to the dashboard. But when I "click here to refresh" it gives me the same error message. I reboot the NAS and still get the same error message. I've tried different network settings and still get the error message. I don't understand because it worked fine for over a month. Any ideas on how i can get this nas to function properly? I dont care if i have to reset the RAID5, I just want to be able to use my box again. Is there a factory reset button i can use and start over from scratch???

    Please help. Thanks!

    Hi there is a pin hole at the back of the unit (use paper clip) , press and hold until you hear a long beep sound then release - your unit has now been reset

    I have pressed it before and I've even taken the back pannel off of the NAS and held the button down for over 30 seconds and it never beeps. All three hard drive lights are flashing blue showing link activity and the chasis light was blinking orange. Now the chasis light is steady blue and I still get the same network error when trying to connect to the NAS.

    Everytime i run the setup wizard, either auto or manual, it says its configuring the NAS then returns to the dashboard. But the only option on the dashboard is to click on the name of the NAS and login. Which just brings me back to the same network setting error message i posted in the OP. I can ping the NAS no problem via command line but still can't connect via web browser.

    I am having this exact same problem. I have two different networks, each running their own Patriot Javelin S4. On the first network, the S4 is running fine with two WD 2TB drives in RAID1, while on the second network, we are having difficulties connecting to the S4 with two Hitachi 4TB drives in it. Even after removing the hard drives and power cycling and resetting (via the pin-hole reset button) the S4, it will not connect via the web interface or the dashboard. Using a laptop on the first network, we can access the S4 through both the dashboard and the web interface; using the same laptop on the second network is a fail in both scenarios. There was no operating time on the second network's S4: it was purchased new, sat around for 3 months, and put into service last week. There are a couple things that indicate the S4 is partially doing something: 1) it can communicate with the gateway to obtain an IP, 2) it will respond to pings, 3) the dashboard can somewhat connect to it in a "network settings error" state, and offers a setup wizard, but whether the settings are being properly communicated back to the NAS is questionable as there seem to be no change to communications. Normally, when connecting to a working S4, the dashboard will offer all types of configuration settings and status of the NAS; in the latter scenario (3), only the setup wizard and a manual config are present, and communications are slow and unstable.

    There is no doubt about it; this is not a configuration problem, this is either a corrupt firmware problem or a corrupt hardware problem. I would like some official answer to this problem before I send it off to Patriot support to authorize a return, because this is simply unacceptable in a brand new unit. If it is a corrupt firmware problem and there is some way to load it on (through standard interfaces like USB or ethernet or something and without voiding warranty unlike JTAG), I am willing to try it.

    Did you guys try putting in a different drive? When the Javelin Starts up, if it has a drive in it that it doesnt like, it wont boot properly!!

    I dont have any other drives to insert but I have removed all of the drives and did a reboot. Still the same problems. Now most of the time it won't even accept the login of admin/admin which is the account i've always used with this machine. As li arc posted I have also wondered if this is a firmware related issue.

    I would like to add that I am able to access all of my stored data but only by using Filezilla FTP client, so I am skepical when it says there's a network problem. But this still does not solve my origional problem.

    I'm having the same problem: Dashboard gives network setting error, get "500 - Internal Server Error" if I try to access <the IP> or <the IP>/admin/

    Initially, it did setup and mount the two 2TB disks I installed and mounted the shared volume, but I haven't been able to connect to the NAS with the web interface or dashboard at all. :/

    Looks like Patriot is ignoring all the problems with these devices, guess I'll just have to return it unless anybody has any suggestions. Also, I've tried doing the 30-second paperclip reset... no joy.

    Guess I should close the loop on my problem. Apparently it was serious enough that Patriot decided within a couple e-mails that this is an RMA problem. A month after sending it in, we got back a brand new unit, which worked right out of the box. So I assume this was either a firmware issue that cannot be fixed remotely (ie. without some type of manufacturing jig or JTAG interface) or it was some hardware issue. Either way, Patriot responded quickly enough, so it was reasonable. Still not happy that the cost of our unit increased by the shipping costs, but Patriot did what they could after the fact, and it was a good effort.
