Connecting to PBO

Got a weird problem. Have 2 PBO's (long time owner) networked and I can connect/interact everywhere except for one of the PBO's - I can't get access to from other boxes, whether it be the PC or from the other PBO. From Windows, it simply says "Can't connect". From the other PBO, it prompts me for a logon window (attached)?? I can connect from this problem PBO to the PC, no problem.



What would cause this window prompt? Both PBO's are setup exactly the same.

The only time I see this request come up on my PBO is when for some reason my PBO wireless can not connect to my router. Doing a power cycle (OFF then ON) usually resolve that isssue. Does your PBO receives an IP from your router (Setup network tab) ??? Is the IP received by the PBO in the same subnet than the other devices (Other PBO, PC etc....). Have you tried to flash the firmware P02 then what ever one you really want to use???

I would like to help but I need more info.

I can setup/connect wirelessly no problem (frm PBO -> computer AND to the other PBO). I get that prompt when trying to connect from the other PBO or even connecting to itself (Network -> Workgroup -> MBEDROOM).

I've even [hard] wired the connection and I still have the same issue.

I will try to reflash everything. The 2 boxes are practically identical (internal HDD is a different size?), that's what throws me. I was looking for someone that may have had the same problem and possibly knew the fix. Maybe a corrupt config file or something...

It's not a huge deal as I can get files transferred other ways, was just one of those "quests" I wanted to solve.

You have BT/Samba enable on both PBO right?? Sorry if my question sound pretty obvious I am just trying to eliminate the easy stuff first.

If I understand you properly the PBO does not even see itself thru the network tab - Workgroup. That indeed very weird especially if BT/Samba is enabled.

By the way which firmware are running?

That's just it, it DOES see itself, but prompts me with that logon box.

I did just notice a difference that could explain this (not to me of course). I'm using the ACR 4824 (it's just been totally reliable to me all this time - hence no updates - why fix it if it ain't broke!). The box with the problem is bootcode 16; the other being 18. Does that help discern the problem? Is there something I can edit via Telnet that would eliminate that prompt ---- because of bootcode 16?

Wow!!! You got me stump !!! This would not be a network name conflict ??? Both PBO having the same network name. As far as the bootcode is concern I can not think of any reasons why this would make a difference; most of the bootcode work is done once the firmware is loaded and control is passed to that firmware which in your case I am assuming that both PBO's are running ACR 4824.

This thing should definitely not be asking for username/password for it's own share unless what you are actually seeing is the share of the other PBO or the one from the one you are currently at. I am also guessing that turning off the other PBO does not help with the situation.

Nah, network names are different - LIVING ROOM/MBEDROOM.

Both are running ACR 4824.

Doesn't matter if the other [working] PBO is on or off.

Thank YOU, snappy. Like I said, not a big deal, just wanted everything to work the same.

I'll try a reflash of the ACR, who knows... if I don't return, the problem remains

i just hooked up the macbook to the pbo. i see the folders, i even put in the user and password. as i get into the folders it keeps asking me for the user and pass.
