    Default PBO Remote problem

A few days back my remote stopped working in the middle of watching a movie. I tried new batteries and the IR emitter is visible with my phone camera so I don't think it's an issue with the remote. Has anyone else had an issue like this? I tried turning the box office off completely to the extent of unplugging it from everything and starting it up again but it still does not take input from the remote.
Id appreciate any advice for things to try to fix this.
    Thanks.

Since your remote appears to be working as indicated by the visible IR thru your camera then it could either be the IR sensor (Hardware failure) or a possible firmware corruption. As far as hardware failure you are pretty much out of luck unless your PBO warranty is still valid. In that case I suggest you contact Patriot RMA department to see what they can do for you.

If the issue is caused by a firmware corruption then trying to flash the firmware to the unit might be the easiest way to go. To do that since you can not control your box using your remote I recommend that you find a way to telnet to your PBO and then issue the following command:

    Code:
    kill -6 1
This command should force a firmware update; just make sure that you have a USB device connected to your PBO with a firmware on the root directory of that device.

Hope this helps; let me know if you need help on how to access the PBO using telnet.

    Good luck.

Thanks Snappy, I'll give this a try this weekend and let you know how it goes.

Is there a way to find my bootcode without a remote? I don't know which FW to use.

Not that I know of but just to be on the safe side just to test whether or not it is a firmware corruption use a firmware for bootcode 16. Bootcode 16 firmware will work fine on any PBO no matter what the PBO bootcode is (16, 18, 23 etc....). In a matter of fact to give your PBO a good clean I recommend that you go with P02 firmware; if that firmware resolves your problem then you can flash again whatever firmware you prefer.

    Good luck.
