I know some work had been done a while back on an alternate firmware for the Javelin, but as far as I know, nothing was released. I was wondering if all development on this has stopped or if there's still work being done on it. The addition of Optware was a big help, but the packages there are getting a bit dated and compiling anything really new is near impossible due to the outdated version of GCC in the repository and the outdated glib libraries on the NAS.

One option is to try and build packages with static libraries, but this raises it's own set of problems. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting newer applications compiled for the NAS?
