Default PBO box dead after I installed a SATA internal hard disk

I just installed a SATA internal hard disk in the PBO box and powered it on. After I saw the logo, it just hanged there. Anyone can help?

    Thanks a lot!

First step would be to take out the SATA drive and see if it starts normally, but you do know you have to format the drive after installing it in your PBO before it will work?
There is all the info about that on one of the threads here.

    Thanks!
I have taken out hte SATA drive, still the same thing. I powered it on, I saw the logo, then it died. There is no video signal output from PBO box. I tried to telnet it at 192.168.0.160, no response. Do you know where is the thread discussing this issue here? Is there a way to force reset and reload the BOX?

It sure looks to me as if your firmware got corrupted and that you brick your PBO. If it is still on warranty I suggest you contact Patriot Memory RMA support and see if they can help you. You can also search this forum for "PBO Brick" and you can find all kinds of information about possible recovery process. Beware that some of those recovery methods will void your warranty.

Please feel free to ask more question if you need more guidance.

    Good Luck !!!

    Thank you very much, Snappy46.
I want to try last time if I could telent the BOX before I contact RMA support. Do you know if the 192.168.0.160 is the factory default ip address of PBO core and Whether I should connect my laptop to PBO via a normal Ethernet cable or a crossover Ethernet cable?

    Thanks,

    Hi wz081,

I am not really sure that there is really a default IP address for the PBO; 192.168.0.9 comes to mind but really not sure. I also believe that if you connect your laptop directly to the PBO you will require a crossover Ethernet cable where the rx and tx lines are crossed. Assuming that connection can be made the IP should be in the same subnet as your computer. Try using ping to see if a connection is available.

If connection can be established and assuming that the telnet server is actually running (very doubtful considering the symptoms you give); you should established a telnet session; connect a USB stick to the PBO with the firmware in the root directory and issue the following command.

    Code:
    # kill -6 1
This should force a firmware update and firmware on the USB will be flashed to your PBO.

    Good luck!

    Snappy

Sure it looks like a firmware corruption. If it is within warranty, you should definitely get help from PBO. Otherwise, it is not that difficult to fix if you have a USB-TTL cable.
