USB Plug Out

Bought my second PBO Core a couple of months ago after 2 years of trouble free usage from my first PBO.
Tonight when I tried to watch a TV show from an external USB drive I keep getting a Plug Out message and the drive drops out.
Wait for USB plug in message then try again. Sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 5 sec plug out again.
What the hell is going on?
I never saw this message on my old PBO in 2 years now 10 times in 30 minutes.
HELP?

Is that external drive a portable model that has no power adapter? If that is the case, the USB port does not have sufficient power to keep the drive spinning.

Yes, it's a WD 2.5" 500GB, but that seems strange cos I used it for 2 years with no problem on my old PBO and on my new PBO Core for a couple of months, it just started doing this last night.

Still doing it and it does seem to be a power problem as I am playing from a flash drive now with no problem so far.
My WD 500GB is playing a movie now on my old PBO on my other TV with no problem.
Very strange as it only started after 2 months of trouble free use.
I'm wondering if it is the power adaptor as surely the PBO hardware is the same?
I'll swap the two adaptors later and see what happens.

Portable drive requires around 1-2A current to spin while USB 2.0 standard requires only 0.5A. So the new PBO may have a little bit lower current output (e.g. less than 1A) but still comply with USB 2.0. It will spin the drive intermittently. It is not really a hardware issue. You may try a hub with external power or by using a Y cable for separated USB power and data with an external power source.

I'm haveing the same prolbem with an external 1tb seagate 3.5 in a powered enclosure. This drive has worked
fine for months and now its starting to drop out....could this be a heat-related issue as well?

If you are having the same problem with an externally powered drive, it could be a problem with the drive or with the USB port. Heat could be one possible factor to cause the issue.
