    Default Troubles Setting up NAS

    Hello,

I'm a complete newbie at dealing with servers and am trying to set up a NAS. I have a static IP address and have registered it with the netword administrator. When I boot it up it appears on the network for a few seconds, but then drops out at random.

When I first connected it I was able to log in through my network using the admin user name and passord, but now I cannot connect to it through my network, or through the dashboard, or through the IP address. Any help you could provide would be wonderful!

I'm using a Mac with OS X Snow Leopard. Just let me know if there is any more useful information that I can provide.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you for your help!

I have the NAS plugged directly into a network port, so I can't check for the NAS by loggin into a router. I have it registered with ITS and have the static IP address. I cannot use this IP address to directly log into the NAS - it just times out rather than connecting.

That is odd. Usually your router will give the device an IP autoamtically. No DHCP on your LAN? Also just try hook up the NAS directly to the PC for a propper setup. That will eliminate most problems first. Then you can go step by step. Also how about check user manual? =)
They usually show step by step what to do ^^

Thank you again for your suggestions! I appreciate any advice I can get! It's starting to feel like I've tried everything at this point with no success.

The LAN is DHCP, but the device has an assigned static IP address. When I retrieve the IP address using IPconfig I get the assigned address. When I try to use this address to connect to the NAS the connection just times out. I have tried setting it up connected directly to my computer, but it doesn't complete the setup - it just quits the dashboard program partway through. I've tried all the troubleshooting suggestions and setup steps in the manual, but it just won't allow me to connect. The NAS keeps disappearing from the network and then reappearing.

The closest I've come to being able to connect was after running the manual setup with the NAS connected directly to my computer. I then connected the NAS to the network and tried to connect. I received an error message stating that the network settings were incorrect. They were the settings recommended by the network admin, so I'm not sure why that message appeared. I asked him to double-check the settings, and he says they're correct.

When I run the automatic setup on the NAS the setup does not properly complete (Dashboard suddenly quits), and I am unable to connect at all.

Even when connected directly to my computer, the NAS randomly disappears and reappears. I'm guessing that this is what is interrupting the setup procedure, but I can't figure out why it keeps dropping.

I've tried both hard and soft resets with no change.

I hope this additional information will be useful.
