Torqx 2 32GB won't boot after Win XP install ...
Partitioned and aligned (1024) SSD on second system.
Installed SSD in primary system as boot drive for Win XP.
Booted Win XP install disk on IDE CD-R/W drive.
Recognized SSD & formatted it for NTFS.
Installed Win XP Home on SSD & exited setup.
Restarted system and received error: Error loading operating system!
What is the make and model of your system or motherboard?
Can you make sure that you have the latest bios applied?
Try a different sata cable and sata port.
Can you try a repair or a fresh install? To rule out a bad drive, can you verify that the drive works as a secondary storage drive?
The first thing I did was upgrade the BIOS to the latest version since I could do that from ASUS Setup.
I will try a different SATA cable and SATA port. [Doubt this is it since they worked to install Win XP]
I will attach it to a second PC as a secondary drive and see if it is recognized and I can access it okay.
If not, I will boot off the Win XP CD and attempt a repair tonight. If that doesn't work, I'll try a fresh install.
The only other thing I tried was to set the SATA configuration to AHCI but that did nothing so I set it back to IDE.
Thanks for your help ...
Double checked on the SATA configuration and it was still set to AHCI so set it back to IDE and I was able to boot the Win XP CD and go into recovery mode. I ran fixboot and then fixmbr. It reported the MBR bad before I rewrote it. I then exited recovery mode and ran WinXP setup again. That went well and so I then booted off the SSD and it failed, getting the "Error loading operating system" message. I then repeated this again and got the exact same thing. So, I then took the SSD to a separate system (Wind 7) and attached it as a secondary drive. That system would then not boot, getting an error saying there was something wrong with a hard drive in the system. Removed the drive and it booted up again fine. Looks like a bad drive? Please advise ...
