Default Want to go to 6 or 8GB from 4GB DDR2.

I have 4 slots, each is full with a 1GB memory chip.

    I have model PEP21G6400LL DDR2 pc2-6400 RAM.

What is the cost effective way to get 8GB for my 64 bit win 7 system up from the 4GB I have, or at least to 6GB?

Do I have to buy 8GB total kit and discard all my old RAM or can I use 2 or more of my current memory modules and just buy one or two new modules to replace some of the 1GB modules? Does it need to be in even pairs? i.e. 1GB, 1GB, 2GB, 2GB for 6?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

What make and model motherboard do you have?

As long as the motherboard supports it, the most direct way of upgrading is replacing your current set with a 2x4GB kit or adding 2x2GB kit.

    In 2x4GB we have:
    PSD28G800K

    In 2x2GB:
    PSD24G800K

I would like keep some of my memory if its more cost effective, though they are only 1GB each so maybe not?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte, model: EP43-UD3l

    Hello,

According to system specs, your motherboard supports up to 16GB, at 4GB per slot max.

Therefore yes, you should be able to mix n match the current 2GB (2x1GB) you have an add either the 4GB (2x2GB) or 8GB (2x4GB) with it.
    6 and 10GB's will work.

An important note is to make sure that each kit is ran on each channel. The separate channel's should be color-coded. You may want to consult your motherboard manual to see which sticks go where, if using a set with higher capacity.

    Hello,

We no longer carry our PEP Series. However the following should work fine with what you have now:

    (2x2GB) - PSD24G800K
    (2x4GB) - PSD28G800K

Will my board support DDR3 if I just want to change all of them?

As you don't carry my model anymore, what will the difference be?

    Hello,

Looking at your board no. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it does. There were some hybrid boards on the market but unfortunately this is not one.

Thanks for all your help. Few more questions

    1) Where can I get the RAM you recommended for this board, I didn't find it on newegg
    2) As these are different model number then mine now, what is the difference?
    3) As prices have come down a good amount, can I run 1066 RAM DDR2 instead of the 800 of my old ones if I just replace all with a new kit? My current memory, is its max 800 or can this memory be overclocled a little, as my CPU is limited to 3.2Ghz to keep 1:1 FSM with just 800mhz RAM.
