Default Does the old Core remote work with the Alpine ?

I am very happy with the Core remote and I am thinking of upgrading to the Alpine. Will the functions of the Core remote work on the Alpine ? I am specially interested in the CIM and the Ins. replay functions. I have a Hard Drive connected by usb- Would FF go up to 64 ?

    Thanks

The PBO Core remote works with the PBO Alpine (Except for "OnLongItemClick") and does provide added functionality not available when using the small remote control. However the CM and Ins Replay function have not been implemented within the player application hence those functions do not work. Hopefully those functions will be added in future firmware updates???? I do not know.

IMHO given the current functionality of the PBO Alpine; I would not recommend it as an upgrade to the PBO Core unless you like to use your media player for other things than playing media (browsing the web, reading news etc...). Youtube also works great on it so if YouTube is important to you then you may also consider it as a replacement for the PBO Core.

Hopefullly future firmware upgrade will bring the same media play functionality to the PBO Alpine as we've enjoyed with the PBO Core. Once this is achieved and given the added functionality given by the Android O/S and the rock bottom price of this player it will definitely be one of the best buy around. In the meantime strickly speaking as a "media player" it fall somewhat short of it's goal.

I hope I have answer your questions; by the way FF is very much dependent on the speed of the hardware (medium) that the video resides on. It is very unlikely that you will ever see a FF of X64 playing a video that reside on a network share.

    Cheers !!!

    Default Thanks Snappy

Thanks for the wonderful and comprehensive answer. I will wait till the CIM functionality is implemented because that is the one I use the most. I have WD and Uebo and I like Core the best.

It is a mystery to me, why other media player don't have the CIM function. I have a Panasonic DVD recorder with a hard drive which has the CIM function and I have been using the hard drive to record TV programs every day since 2004 and use the CIM all the time to FF.This is a solidly built machine for which I paid over $400 in 2004 and has been worth every penny.
The Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR provided by Time Warner annoyingly does not, so I use the Panasonic for the SD and the SA for High Definition.

    Thanks

Yes, currently the PBO Core remote does work with the Alpine.

We will be releasing a new stock firmware which addresses some mapping issues and fine-tunes it further for the older PBO Core remote.

Instant Replay is added, but CM will be added later down the road.

    FF is 32x max.

    I can;t believe how much I use\used it.
Thank god I still have one older PBO player.

I wish I had read your review Snappy46 before i gave my Inlaws my Pbo to upgrade to the Alpine...

CM is possible with the Matrix firmware; press the right arrow when the video is playing and the movie info + duration slider will be visible. Press the right arrow key again and you will skip forward.

Now if I could just find a way to do the goto thing it would be perfect; although the PBO Alpine is pretty good at remembering where you were the last time and resume at that location.

    Cheers !!!!
