Exclamation Why no updates from Patriot???

I don't understand why we are still stuck with this .v1 firmware.

The Javelin is an awesome piece of hardware at an awesome price. It looks good and the specs are there, Patriot should be excited about it! It could do so much more if they would put some effort into it. There are some stupid bugs that could easily be fixed but all were left with is an update with minor text fixes?

C'mon, be innovative, make this product the awesome one that will make every drobo buyer cry.

OR at least please release the firmware source as open source this way we can get the show rolling.

Right now It feels like this is already a dead product. Im starting to wonder if there is a reason I got it for only 199$.

Seriously, If I have to I would rather PAY for firmware updates than be stuck with an outdated and broken device.

So if the reason your not involving yourselves more in the development of this product is money PLEASE charge me for a maintenance program and pimp my raid!

This happens frequently these days with lots of hardware vendors. It's annoying to say the least. I don't think most vendors want to fully support "older" products and just want to move forward and have customers upgrade on a semi-regular basis. That's a more profitable business model than updating older devices with new/fixed functionality.

BadIntentions has been doing a lot of work with the Javelin so you might want to discuss with him some of your ideas. I know he discussed early on how he got the source code and what he was doing.

Maybe so, but the fact is that Patriot hasen't come out with a newer / better model than the Javelin so it's not like I can upgrade to something else. As far as I know this is their only 4-bay NAS device so they should invest some time in the firmware to fix outstanding issues. Furthermore, they recycled technology from Promise so it's not like they had to put up a lot of efforts into development of a completely new product!

This is a very nice box, it supports 4tb drives, the speed is good, all they need to do is fix the small problems here and there and we'll be happy campers!

Take for example LG... I have a N2R1 NAS which has been out since 2009, they kept releasing firmware update now and then to fix things. Now they just released 3 weeks ago a brand new firmware interface (UI) based on the one their new NAS model line uses! Yes I had to format my drives to apply it but how cool is that!

Well, you could always bug Patriot Customer Support for some action. I believe there are some Patriot people perusing this forum but I don't know if it's in an official capacity.

Best thing to do is probably contacting Patriot with bug or annoyance reports. If you don't tell them, they won't necessarily know about them from this forum.

There are some of us who are taking this device and improving it to add things we want / need on our own.

The whole point for hacking together the Optware Plugin was because I wanted SSH, that was it, everything else anyone can get from Optware is gravy!!

    dear patriot,
I know you are waiting on another company to help "fix" or "port" the firmware update for the nas..... but many of your customers are loosing their patience. Please continue bothering promise or show the forum members here how to bother them ourselves. I would be happy to recommend this nas to anyone looking for one but the time it has taken to fix this devise is just taken too long to be acceptable. What happens if the new osx (10.8) breaks it again when it's released in a little over two months from now? will we have to wait anther 6 months for a patch from promise?

If they could at the VERY LEAST get this ONE issue fixed I would be happy, even If they dont ever do any other firmware updates. I think it would be sad as this box has a ton of potential but its unacceptable for a device to not support standby / drive spindown. It will basicly KILL our hard disks prematurely.

Hey heres an idea... If this thing is rooted... why dont we try to get a full blown linux distro on there? ya know, this way we can install any package we want, update drivers ourselves...

Maybe we could even get freenas running on it, wouldnt that be something?
