Default PSD38G1600K won't post with 2 sticks in ASRock P67E4G3

    Hi all,

I am hoping to learn if there are any known compatibility issues between the two components mentioned in the title. I've recently built a new computer from scratch. I get to boot fine with 1 stick of RAM in any of the 4 slots. If I place both sticks of RAM I fail to boot. I can boot with either stick. I've tried every combination of placements possible for the RAM.

I've gone into bios and manually set:
    - CAS Latency to 9 (down from 11 automatic)
    - Frequency to DDR3-1600 (auto-detected correctly, but set manually to ensure)
    - Tweaked voltage from 1.59 auto-detect down to 1.50 manually and then brought it up in small increments to 1.65. Did not change booting at all under any of these voltages.

I wasn't able to locate speed configurations in the P67's bios, but there were a lot of other dram settings to mess with that I opted not to touch. Just the ones listed above.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks guys,

EDIT: I think I figured out how to tweak the speed settings, assuming that they are the values directly under CAS.

    Pulling timings from:
    http://www.patriotmemory.com/forums/...ht=PSD38G1600K

I set the values to 9-9-9-24 and put in 2 sticks - no change.
I set the values to 7-7-7-20 and put in 2 sticks - error code changed to 54 - 'unspecified memory initialization error' not sure if this is better or worse lol

rebooting the PC or changing RAM slot brought me back to error code 2E. Even if I put the RAM back in the original slot it remained at 2E. So, error code 54 is intermittent and only seems to occur when I set timings low.

This specific model of RAM isn't listed on ASRock's supported memory list not sure how relevant that is:

    Hello Meomix,

Make sure that you have the latest Bios flashed.

The timings of our Signature memory has actually been changed.

Our Signature memory is actually designed to run at the default 1600 11-11-11 latencies.

Can you give this a try and let me know if this is stable?

    Hey man,

    Thanks for the response.

I can confirm that the latest BIOS firmware has been flashed onto the mobo. We're on 1.1 and that's the only upgrade from the 1.0 original release.

1600 11-11-11 is stable in the sense that I do not get a 54 memory init error, but 2 sticks of RAM do not appear compatible with this mobo. I'm out of ideas and am planning on returning the RAM to Amazon tomorrow, unfortunately. If you have any further suggestions I would be more than happy to hear 'em, though!

    Hello Meomix,

Try pushing the DRAM voltage to 1.65v, System Agent voltage to 1.40v. If your board has settings for tRFC try adjusting this to 100 or higher.

Let me know if this helps.

    Hey hey,

I would've done more testing on it -- but I have a business trip tomorrow morning so I sent it back for a different set of RAM on the guaranteed list. Interest that so many versions of Patriot would be guaranteed, but some not. Oh well... sorry I couldn't test more -- thanks for the suggestions!

Not a problem. Sorry we couldn't get a working solution for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions, comments, or concerns.
