SSD firmware update from RAID 0
Hi,
dumb question here.....
I have read many posts about having to split your RAID into AHCI mode to proceed with the firmware updates But my question is: once split my RAID how do i actually perform the upgrade?? do i need bootable media/files to be able to select my drives before boot up?
surely i don't have to do it through the OS?
thanks.

Hello,
What model of our drive are you referring to?
-
sorry, i have 2x PW240GS25SSDR( wildfire 240gb), RAID 0

Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately you would have to break the array completely and get the system recognizing each as separate drives in order to flash the firmware. As long as the array is broken and the system reads the drives as 2 separate drives you shouldn't have any issues.
I hope I'm understanding your question right... but yes you would need bootable media, basically any system with Windows. In fact the updater tool is a (.exe program) that needs to be ran from a PC-based Windows environment. From here, you can perform the update from another HDD with Windows, or you can format the o/s (any Windows XP, Vista or 7) onto those Wildfire drives and run the updater from the drives you are trying to flash.
Let me know if you need any further help.

Thanks for the reply,
I have plugged my drives into another XP machine and am currently updating the firmware on the drives.
However i did make any chagnes to the drives from their RAID 0 configuration, will i lose my data on the drives?
It does not really matter to me as they are pretty much clean and do not contain any important data.

Hi,
Also after completing the firmware update, the Firmware REV still shows version 3.1.9. when it just completed the update for 3.3.2

Hello,
What make and motherboard do you have? Can you make sure that the Wildfire drives are in AHCI mode? Try temporarily disabling any anti-virus or firewall.
Make sure that the Wildfires are in sata ports 1 or 2. Let me know if this helps.

Hi,
Thanks! i switched the Windows XP machine to AHCI mode ( i stupidly forgot to change this!) And booted with my 2x wildfire drives plugged in. I simply ran the updater through the OS and upgraded no problem.
However when taking my drives back to my PC and re-configuring the RAID i lost all my data. Perhaps the way i did it as im not to experienced in this yet. Though it does not matter as i have a solid backup.
thanks again for the help.
- solved.
