more like when does your patience run out?

out of frustration i called their tech offices today. one of the guys there made himself available, which was a relief and he said that the next Matrix will be a final Alpha. so what we have in store is an upgrade on the stock firmware, to which they're applying a suite of tests at the moment.

after that conversation i'm really not holding my breath any longer - i think it's gonna be a very long time before anything significant happens with this player. and the mutant Android o/s version they're using is severely handicapped and that issue gets resolved in matrix, as i understand it.

Thanks for the info. I know many of us are loosing our patience, but I think the employees really care and are trying their best. Unfortunately, it appears that this is not a priority for Patriot Memory and the necessary resources are not being provided by the company to ensure the success of the player. It's really too bad as I think they could have had a great device, but like you I am no longer holding my breath. While I will keep an eye on the progress and hope for the best, I am going to start looking for an alternative.

yeah that's a good way to put it... were this priority they would have staffed it appropriately and sped up the timeline to completion.

on the note of phone os being modded, maybe patriot should send one of the leading groups the player and code. it would be neat to see what they would do with the players firmware.

The good news about all this is that if I understood correctly the intent behind the matrix firmware is that once this firmware has reach a certain level of stability and that the Skyviia proprietary content has been removed the firmware source code will be release to the community for further improvement and development. At that time community development will be the driving force for this firmware. Most of the firmware is made up of many different Android apps that can easily be modified and customized by the community assuming you are familiar with Android programming (Java Micro Edition JME).

    Cheers !!!

That is correct Snappy! That is our plan once Matrix firmware has matured.

    To the Alpine community:

We hear your frustrations and we are trying our best to address them.

We are currently testing the movie wall function which implements id3 tags via JSON format. We just want to make sure that it's easy for our customers to use.

Thank you for your patience on the matter. We hope to iron out the kinks soon.

It's good that you hear our frustrations, but with no disrespect, actions speak louder. I think if this product has any chance of being successful, the company needs to quickly devote a lot more resources to it, or immediately open it up to those that can take it to the next level. I can't believe how long it has taken just to update the alpha version! I expected a lot more from a company like Patriot.

From the little bit of research I have been doing today, it appears that you are unfortunately falling behind your competitors. For example, the Pivos XIOS DS Media Player was updated in June to ICS from 2.3. Furthermore, it was announced that XBMC will be releasing a full Android version and Pivos appears to have a head start as they have been supporting XBMC. (It helps that one of the XBMC developers works for them. But I am sure XBMC would love to hear from Patriot too.) See here for more details on the XBMC announcement: http://xbmc.org/theuni/2012/07/13/xbmc-for-android/
