Thread: Brand New Javelin won't go to admin in Dashboard or WebPASM

  1. #11

Default Dashboard shuts down after 2 seconds

I am having the same issue. Splash screen and almost immediate shut down. I have tried re-installing the software multiple times, I was able to log in once as admin, but the application shut down prior to any configuration. I have also attempted to access via a web client, chrome and firefox.

I am running Win 7 64. I am also running AVAST and have tried this with AVAST disabled. Any thoughts for further trouble shooting.

I'm in love with the concept of this device, and would rather not RMA.

Im having the same issue pal, if anyone can answer this please do as i had to send my first javelin S4 back.

    My Setup:

    1. Javelin S4 connected to my router (Netgear WNDR4000)
    2. Inside the unit itself i have one NTFS formatted 3TB WD Caviar Green HDD
    3. My laptop is also hardwired to the router with the Javelin S4 Media Center software installed
    4. and lastly i am using the latest version of Firefox to try and connect to the device via the web interface

Steps i have taken so far:

1.Turned the Javelin S4 off and on via the power button located at the rear end of the unit
2.Soft and Hard resets via the pinhole at the rear bottom left side
3.Reserved the I.P of the unit on the router (WNDR4000)
4.Unplugged the unit and left for ten minutes while i had a smoke in frustration then plugged it back in
5.Took the single HDD that was in and rebooted, also Hard and soft Resets again while the drive was out
6.In completed desperation i even changed the router and still nothing

Now initially the device seemed to be playing ball, the Javelin software started to configure, the folders got created on the drive i could see the folders under the network and i could even see the DLNA Media Server but......after closing down the Javelin S4 software and re-opening again - its then where the problem begins..because when you open it back up again it comes up with saying that the device isnt properly configured on the network blah blah bloody blah, oh and the web GUI never worked to begin with and this is why i resorted to using the software. please help

I'm sorry to hear you have problems with your unit. I personnally never use companies "wizards" or auto-setups because I find them useless and too dumbed down so my first advice is to NOT use the Dashboard AT ALL.

First I would do a "hard reset" of the unit. You can do this by holding the reset button for a while, you will hear two "beeps". Note that will lose all your config and data on the drive as well. It doesn't matter which file format as it will be reformatted to EXT3.

Then find the IP address of the device, let your router assign it through DHCP. In Internet Explorer log to the device by typing the IP in the URL bar (ie: 192.168.1.116). Pretty sure the default username is "admin" with a blank password.

Not essential, but I recommend to setup a static IP address so it will never change again, choose something between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.99 because it's usually not part of the DHCP. Do this in the Javelin interface, not your router. Specify you Router IP as the gateway and don't forget to match the DNS fields with your internet access. You will then have to reboot the device, wait a minute and access it using the new static IP that will never change.

From there you should be able to configure everything; I would start with the v1 firmware update if it isn't already done. Then create your volume, etc... Also I recommend disabling any service you don't need (DLNA, FTP, etc...) this will let you gain speed.
