Has anyone got a method to address this problem? I've seen a few references to it in these forums, but haven't come across any solution.
This is a brand new device, straight out of the box, with no disks installed in it.
Thanks.

I've never used the software that comes on the CD, i've always used the admin panel http://ip.here/admin
It could be that you have a bad unit, usually when it boots up, you will hear a loud beep to tell you that it is ready, if you are not getting that, then its definitely a bad unit
The unit does beep indicating its on line, and the device will show up on the network. I am able to read and write files to the shared folders, but can't get to the admin pages either through a browser or the Dashboard software. I've tried a soft and hard reset, as well as pull drives and installing new drives.
thats weird, i would say try resetting it back to default..
disclaimer: What Im about to suggest here is up to you, I have not tried it, so proceed at your own risk.
Now try to connect to the Javelin again and see if you get the admin menu nowLog in as root
type engsh (this should put you in the engineers menu/command line)
type reset : reset JAVELIN_S4 to the default setting
type reboot
How would I log on to the Javelin? I don't think that it has telnet or ssh enabled.
use the rooter plugin that is stickied at the top of this forum.
then telnet in to port 2380 with user root
I don't think that I can install the rooter plugin without being able to get to the admin pages....
Doh!!
Hmmm, maybe if you call support they will give you the engmode password so you can telnet in
What exactly happens when you attempt to access the web control panel?
visit http://ipaddress/admin/
for example: http://192.168.0.15/admin/ <-final slash is important!
I AM NOT A PATRIOT MEMORY EMPLOYEE.
But they have, on occasion, bribed me with hardware.
I am happy to help, but don't PM me. Post a thread in the appropriate forum so others may benefit and offer assistance.
Your lack of planning is not an emergency on my part.
Same issue here. Brand new Javelin media server, installed 4*3tb hdds, connected with ethernet. Installed dashboard on my 64bit windows 7 desktop. Dashboard terminates after about 2 seconds of the splash screen. It may have something to do with my Avast virus software, but even with Avast disabled it still fails. I installed Dashboard on my vista laptop with same result until I clicked on 'do not block on startup'. I dont find that option on my desktop. I'm able to do some configuration from my laptop, but I get the error 'Windows cannot access \\PATRIOT' and 'The remote device or resource won't accept the connection'. Any ideas? Thanks, - Tom
