Has anyone got a method to address this problem? I've seen a few references to it in these forums, but haven't come across any solution.
This is a brand new device, straight out of the box, with no disks installed in it.
Thanks.

I've never used the software that comes on the CD, i've always used the admin panel http://ip.here/admin
It could be that you have a bad unit, usually when it boots up, you will hear a loud beep to tell you that it is ready, if you are not getting that, then its definitely a bad unit
The unit does beep indicating its on line, and the device will show up on the network. I am able to read and write files to the shared folders, but can't get to the admin pages either through a browser or the Dashboard software. I've tried a soft and hard reset, as well as pull drives and installing new drives.
thats weird, i would say try resetting it back to default..
disclaimer: What Im about to suggest here is up to you, I have not tried it, so proceed at your own risk.
Now try to connect to the Javelin again and see if you get the admin menu nowLog in as root
type engsh (this should put you in the engineers menu/command line)
type reset : reset JAVELIN_S4 to the default setting
type reboot
How would I log on to the Javelin? I don't think that it has telnet or ssh enabled.
use the rooter plugin that is stickied at the top of this forum.
then telnet in to port 2380 with user root
