cannot access shared folder in xp via pbo

Dear all, I just bought PBO and try to connect it with my desktop.
in my desktop, I use Win XP with these following networking setup

WORKGROUP
192.168.1.128
255.255.255.0
and firewall OFF

in my PBO I set network as
192.168.1.117
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.128
192.168.1.128

I successfully access my PBO with flash disk attached to it, but when I tried to access my shared folder within my desktop via Net - Workgroup, I can't find my shared folder.

I already looked up this problem in this forum, and I tried re-setup my network, but it seems doesn't work.
Anyone can help me with this problem ? thanks in advance

For the network setup the last 2 ip address should point to your DNS server not your IP share device. In a home network setup your DNS server should be your router IP address; probably 192.168.1.1. If your shared folder on your PC are setup correctly they should be pick up automatically by the PBO there aren't any need to enter the IP address of the PC on the PBO .... It is pick up using window default network name: WORKGROUP.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention, I dont use router, just RJ45 cable for peer to peer.
Is it possible to connect PBO with destop without using router ?

Ha!!! Are you using a cross-over Ethernet cable (rx/tx pin reverse from one end to the other) or just a standard Ethernet cable???? You might need a cross-over Ethernet cable for this to work but I am not sure; I am not really familiar with that type of setup. Hopefully someone with a similar setup can help you more than I can.

I'm using cross cable, and I used that cable before to connect my desktop to my laptop peer to peer..

another problem that I found, I tried to copy file from my desktop to my flash disk attached to PBO, but the transfer rate seems rather slow and it stuck in the middle of the transfer file. Maybe I set it wrong ?

The simplest way to solve your problem is to get a router. Some newer interface and automatically detect patch/cross cable. I am not sure if the PBO can do that or not. Did you try manually assign gateway and IP address? Anyway, if you just need to transfer files from PC to the internal drive of PBO, use a simple USB connection (make sure you disconnect other USB devices on PBO when doing so). If you want to transfer file to the flash drive, plug the flash drive directly into your computer. It does not make sense to put several bottle necks in between.
