Default Patriot 8500EL 2GB x2 1066mhz RAM running at 800mhz on STRIKER FORMULA II

    Hi everyone,

I'm losing my mind trying to understand why the damn motherboard cannot detect my Patriot 8500EL (1066Mhz) at the proper speed. And also, despite that motherboard it's build on purpose for tweaking it, I have NFI about what to do without messing with voltages etc...

Can anyone help me? I can past some CPU-Z screenshot if you think it can help.

    Thanks a lot

    Hello,

Which exact Patriot Model 8500 do you have? Ie; PVS24G8500ELK? The reason why it's booting at a lower speed is because this is how it was programmed. We program the memory to boot at lower frequencies, since a voltage increase is required to achieve the performance timings (you cannot default boot at a voltage higher than 1.8v).

Because of this you'll need to manually adjust the timings...

...Or if the memory has a performance profile, you can enable the EPP Profile and it will autoset this for your bios.

Ok, first of all, thank you very much for your reply.

As far as I can check, CPU-Z is telling me that my patriot memory has EPP. So, if I'm not mistaken, it should be an option on my BIOS to activate the EPP profile, and this way allow my memory to work at 1066Mhz. right?

Yes correct. You should see the option in the bios. Look for enhanced profile or profile 1.

Asus usually has this under AI Tweaker or AI Clocker (off the top of my head).

Ok, I've been trying some stuff.
First I managed to change up the RAM voltage to 2.10, and the Timing to 5-5-5-15, but that seemed to have no effect at all on the speed.

Later on I found a tag on my BIOS named FSB and Memory Config

    CPU Level UP ----------------- [Auto]
FSB - Memory Clock Mode ------ [Unlinked]
*FSB - Memory Ratio ----------- Auto
    FSB (QDR), MHz --------------- [1066]
Actual FSB (QDR), MHz -------- 1066.7
    MEM (DDR), MHz --------------- [1066]
Actual MEM (DDR), MHz -------- 1066.7

From those option I only changed FSB - Memory Clock Mode - [Unlinked], and MEM (DDR), MHz - [1066]

Now my CPU-Z shows that. As you can see, my speed is now 533 MHz (1066) but waht worries me is that the Timing is 5-7-7-25.

Should I change as well the Timing values to 5-5-5-15. Does it make any performance difference? Could it be dangerous for my RAM modules?

Thank you for your time an answers and to bare with my ignorance on those matters.

    Hello,

No worries... I'm here to help.

You should be able to change the trp and trcd to 5-5 respectively. It shouldn't cause any harm to the system as the memory should be able to hit those latencies. Do you see the values for those? If not, you might have to enable it or set the AI Clocker to manual.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Ok, I think I have all sorted it out. tRP and tRCD are on 5. Also Cicle Time (tRAS) is on 15.
One last question: Command Rate (CR) should be on 30? because now, in [auto] marks 31.

    Hello kirune,

Command Rate should be more like 1n/1t or 2n/2T... I think your referring to Trc. Row Cycle Time (tRC)...?
But you can generally leave this on auto. Only the 4 main timings- cas, trcp, trcd and tras are the 4 main important ones.

Let me know if you have any further questions. I'll be glad to help!

Yes, you were right, I made a mistake copying the data on de CPU-Z screen. I was talking about tRC.

Anyway, this post was to thank you your help. I do really appreciate it.
