Question Connect to Internet using USB Modem

I have my PBO connected to my PC (win7).
My PC connects to internet using USB Modem.
How can I setup PC/Router/PBO so that my PBO can connect to internet?
I thought that when PBO can access PC, it will automatically connected to internet.. well it doesn't..

    Hello,

How are you connected? By lan cable? The PBO will need it's own usb wifi adapter for "internet" capabilities.

Furthermore, are you referring to a web-browser? The PBO has "net" capabilities, but it's limited to Picasa, RSS Feeds, stock feeds, news feeds, weather etc. In this sense the PBO cannot connect to the Internet like a PC can.

    Hi Ben,

My PBO connected through usb wifi (include in package).
I'm aware that it can't do all like PC does. I'm trying internet radio or streaming youtube. RSS or news feed would be nice if you can tell me how.
    Thanks Ben.

What firmware are you using?? All firmware after and including P05_Beta_IMS provides RSS/news feed thru the IMS menu.

    Cheers !!!

I have tried P70R2 for feeds & now I'm using MedeBO Shizzl 3.2 for internet radio.
My point is I can't connect to internet. Maybe if I'm using DSL modem/router it would be much easier. But I'm using USB stick modem.
    Cheers!

So I guess the first question would be; does the PBO connects to your network using WIFI USB stick??? It does not really matter whether you have a DSL or cable modem/router (I am assuming you have a combo component (modem/router) that can accept wifi connection). If the PBO is in fact connected to your network but can not access the Internet then it is more than likely a DNS server issue; the PBO should have your modem/router IP address set as the DNS server. Also make sure that your modem/router allows Internet access to the PBO IP.

By the way there are no RSS/news feed available on the medebo firmware only Internet radio is available.

BUT I'm connecting to internet through USB modem (which doesn't have IP address which I could use as gateway), CMIIW. USB modem -> PC <--> router <--> PBO.
Some how (I think), I have to setup my router as gateway (maybe)?

I have tried both the modem's IP or the router's IP as DNS server, no success.

True. Maybe in next mod they will have both (I hope so)

How does your computer connected to the internet?
Can that connection be shared with other computer?
If you have router that is connected to the internet directly, then you can easily share the internet connection between the PC and the PBO. If your PC and a dedicated connection to the internet through a non-conventional device, then you may need to try to share that network connection on the computer (i.e. make it a gateway and assign IP address to others).

My PC connect to internet through USB modem. I haven't try sharing it with other computer (because I only have one).
Matter of fact, this router belongs to my friend. I borrow it for connecting PC to PBO, and it serve this purpose perfectly. I can play movies on PBO from my PC, edit & copy files between those devices.
Since my PC can connect to internet, I think that my PBO can do that also, rite? But how? Could you guide me step by step to make it as gateway for PBO? Thanks.

PS : I have tried assign PC's & router's IP address as gateway or DNS in PBO, no luck..

I have not done it in Win7, but in XP you can set your computer to allow other computer to connect to the internet through your computer. It will then assign IP address from a different subnet. The computer will need 2 network connections, one for the internet (your USB modem in this case) and a network device to connect to other computer (e.g. a wifi adapter for adhoc connection, wire connection to PBO with patch cable, or wire connection through a hub/router).
