Default 4-bay-hdd enclosure gets interrupted from time to time (no free space?)

I have a 4-bay enclosure from Fantec which is connected with the PBO via usb. Its filled with 4 hdds from 1-1,5 TB (every hdd is filled up with files). No internal hdd.

If I watch a movie after some time (very different: sometimes 5 Minutes or 20 Minutes or 60 minutes) it stops and I see the home screen. Then the usb connection is lost and is getting scanned again. Sometimes even the hdmi signal gets lost and I have to restart the PBO.

One time I could see a message saying there is less than 200 MB space left on hdd and I have to free up some space.

Could this be the problem? Is there not enough free space to play a movie? (I already changed the usb cable)

Available space shouldn't be an issue since you're only reading from the drive. Is this a usb 3.0 enclosure? If so, are you using a usb 3.0 cable connection? If you are using the wrong-type of cable (USB 2.0), I have seen this happen before the drive will rescan and you would need to reload the movie.

However, this shouldn't effect your hdmi signal. Does this happen in both usb ports? Does the unit actually reset? Or does the hdmi just rescan?

Its an usb 2.0 device. I think I use the correct cable, I dont think I have usb 1.1 cables

The unit does not reset. The screen goes black and the unit doesnt respond anymore. I have to switch it off and on to restart it.
But this does not happen always! Most time the movie only stops and the usb connection is lost. Then the usb device is recognized and scanned again.

btw: On every hdd ther is a minimum of 3gb free space. That should be enough.

    edit:
The other usb port I have not tested yet. I will test it tomorrow.

Let me know how it goes on the other port. When I've seen this happen, the usb will disconnect and the unit should go to the home screen. It's kind of weird for the screen to go black and reappear.

It does not work with the front usb port. After about 1 hour the movie stops and another movie starts to play Very confusing

Can you try plugging the 4 bay enclosure into a pc and playing a movie or file off of that? Also, see if you can play a media file from another usb device to see if the unit does the same thing. Try narrowing down the issue to the 4-bay enclosure or the PBO itself. If other usb drives do the same thing on the PBO, we can setup an exchange for your PBO. Please advise.

If I use another external 2.5" usb drive there is no problem.
I have an htpc (AMD 350), if I use the 4 bay enclosure with this pc there are no problems.

btw. I forgot to mention that I use an alternative Firmware (ACRBO 5440). Maybe I should try the original firmware.

    edit:
    The original firmware works

    Hi sylvio2000,

Which of our firmware did you try? Was it the P70R2?

Unfortunately we cannot support any alternative firmwares, and we do not test our PBO with any alternative firmwares. It could be a case of it being coded differently or there could somehow be a software conflict with this firmware and your 4-Bay device.

Yes, its the latest firmware P70R2.
Maybe I try the medebo firmware, because the original firmware does not have such a nice gui.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, please try the P70R2 and let me know if this helps. I'm sorry that we were not able to assist you with the other firmware.
