Disappointed with this BOX OFFICE

I was among the first to buy the box office.

At the risk of being the only to say my disappointment here, I'm really disappointed with the performance of the box office.
I love the performance of Patriot in flash drives and memory.

Sorry to say that, but, I thought PATRIOT would be innovative enough to provide a pretty interface, features simple connections ( with 7, XP, Vista) and firmware updates which apply to all.

The remote is ugly, crispy and slow, the box make an aircraft noise, find a file is difficult with no search function. Even the MP3 player look like it was designed in the 20th century.

I regret my purchase of this box, and hope that PATRIOT will do something to improve this box ( for example with new firmwares), which is not up to what Patriot can do.

when did you get your box - I have 2 - both have done exactly what I wanted them to do - stream media from the NAS - while I agree Netflix etc would be nice they do what they said they did, for a budget price, and do the job well. Sure they could have some lip stick up dates, but bottom line is they stream from a NAS of other local source quite well. Who plays MP3's with this thing? After all just hook up your phone/ipod/other MP3 to whatever stereo - tell me you are not listening to music over your TV?

I was among the first to buy this box when it was released in 2009.
I regret my purchase because I thought Patriot was going to do a quality product, with frequent updates, quality materials, silencious, and upgradable firmware.
Yes I admit that I listen to my MP3 on my TV from an USB external hard drive.. The MP3 player is just one example, which could also be more detailed ( please try to use repeat one time with the player, with your remote, and try use repeat all to understand what I want to explain). The quality of the video image, the adjustment of the volume for movies, the browser window, the responsiveness of the remote... and more crunchy details.
That's only some examples of my disapointment.
I don't like to give other brand but Po****rn, DV**O and even We****rn Di****l have a price almost similar and do not have the same defects, or to be more accurate, don't have all this defects in the same box .

This is not what I expected from a brand as prestigious as Patriot.

If you are not demanding in terms of upgrading and image quality, I think this box is suitable for a very modest budget. But it is possible to find even cheaper boxs that will do the same thing, and may be better box for image quality with ethernet suitable for a NAS.

The thing I find positive is that Patriot has a fairly open forum.

If you purchased it early on when it was over $100, I can understand your frustration. However, it was at least comparable in price and feature to other media players released around the same time (e.g. Seagate FAT) in the same price range. With more than a handful of firmware updates within 2 years, it is really not bad. I have seen players with zero update at all. Nevertheless, the fan noise issue is definitely a valid complaint. The good thing is they provide free fan replacement(s). Indeed, I am about to request for another replacement again.
For the functions it does, although not perfect I am actually quite please with it. Of course, I did not pay over $100 for it (not even for both of them combined). Early adopters always pay a higher price. You may expect it to do more as it was almost half the cost of a nettop at that time. Nevertheless, people still considered it a great buy at ~$55 within the past year. If there is a better box in the same price range, I would not go for a second one 11 months ago. But again, I only paid ~$45 for it. At that price, I did not see a better or even similar media player. Indeed, I can access many IMS content that others wont. There is always room for improvement, and that's why there are new models and product lines. I don't expect an old product to improve over time. For most electronics, firmware updates are simply for fixing bugs, not for functional upgrade.
I am happy with the audio and video quality of it, but there are several hardware revisions with different bootcodes and firmware between the early one and the later one, so YMMV. Perhaps the earliest batch has quality issue. Indeed, one of mine was shipped with P01 and should be one of the earlier unit. It does have the fan issue but everything else is fine.

First of all, there is no observable difference between my PBO and my HTPC connected to the same TV when playing the same file. Second, I don't see how a 1080p player to have worse video quality than a 720p player. There is some information missing, or the tester may have a defective unit. Nevertheless, I found the PBO is quite picky with HDMI cable. If the tester using lower grade HDMI cable, it may affect the video quality of PBO more than the other players. I would like to know what's wrong with the video quality on PBO. Last but not least, the information on that comparison chart is not accurate. I don't think PBO has gigabit ethernet.
