Thank you for linking me up with the above link. I just have one question regarding telnet force flashing. I understanding loading the PBO P70R2-beta firmware and connecting the usb to the pbo. How do I run the following commands in the telnet session? Do I need a keyboard hooked up to the pbo or is it in the pbo menu screen. Thanks for helping a junior patriot member.

    echo " " | dd of=/dev/mtdblock/0 bs=2048 seek=8192
    reboot

Your PBO needs to be connected to a network and you initiate a telnet session from your PC. How the telnet session is initiated from your computer depends on the O/S you are using. In some O/S you only need to issue the following command from the command prompt (window) or terminal (Mac / Linux):

    telnet <PBO IP Address>

On some window O/S you need to use "putty" google is your friend; on window 7 you only have to enable telnet to be able to initiate a telnet session; again google is your friend (win7 enable telnet).

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers !!!

I am using windows xp. Can I just go to Run - type "cmd" - which brings up a command prompt - type "telnet venus" or "telnet 192.168.x.xxx" (whatever the ip address of th pbo is) - then login, type "root" - you'll be prompted for a password, just press enter. You'll then be dropped into the embedded os / busybox v1.1.3. From here do I just type the command..... echo " " | dd of=/dev/mtdblock/0 bs=2048 seek=8192
    Thank you for your assistance

I think that with window xp you might have to use putty. I am not sure that telnet is available as an external dos command on windows xp. Other than that you got the right idea. Go ahead and just try from the dos prompt; you can hurt anything by just trying that. As far as the command you are plannig to issue to the PBO, well you on your own there. I am not sure what you are trying to do exactly.

    Cheers!!!

I just downloaded Putty. I know that I have to enter the ip address of the pbo. Where do I enter the command....... echo " " | dd of=/dev/mtdblock/0 bs=2048 seek=8192 in Putty? Thanks for all your advice thru this learning process.

Once you have established a telnet session and log in the PBO as root you will be at the PBO Linux prompt. You can enter any Linux command that you want once at that prompt. I certainly hope you know what you are doing; the command "dd" has been nickname "disk destroyer" by the Linux community for a reason. From what I can tell the command you want to issue will clear (actually put spaces 2K of it) in the /dev/mtdblock/0 starting at location 8192. I can only guess that you a reason to do that; just make sure you do not have any typo in the command before you press the enter key.

did some additional reading in this forum area and with u(Snappy) and Tourist help i finally got the asian channels up and running the first attempt. Now i just have to figure out the advantage of a hdd and the setting up short cut to some of my favorite channels in hdpfans page without going thru all the list of channels. Thanks a million for ur patience,

still using V3SP4 which has the remote lag issue but learned to live with it. But another problem came up, I can't no longer see PBO on the network. I can access my laptop thru the PBO. But i don't see PBO on my laptop. any ideas or should change to the new file?

I recently installed the PBO P70R2 with Chinese IMS and Web2.9 firmware (V2SP5fixMOD) from akira. The install went fine, but when trying to watch live tv thru hdpfans in the Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan category, most of the channels don't work and I get a Cannot Display this Media File error. Most of the other live tv channels in different categories (at least the ones I tried like the CCTV ones) worked fine.

I was previously on Chinese Universal Firmware V5SP4 and from what I'm told, the Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan channels were working ok several weeks ago.

Is anyone else seeing problems watching live tv for Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan channels in either firmware? I'm wondering if I should try switching back to Chinese Universal Firmware to see if that resolves the problem. Or should the problem be with the web sites from which the content is being streamed and the problem will happen in either firmware? We usually watch the Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan live tv channels so this is a major bummer for us.

Also, when going to hdpfans, there are 4 options to choose from first before proceeding. (This is true for both Chinese Universal Firmware and the PBO P70R2 with Chinese IMS.) See screenshot at http://i47.tinypic.com/11mgdhv.jpg for reference. I cannot read Chinese characters so I'm wondering what these options are. I asked my Chinese literate relatives what these options mean, but they are not sure either. They think it may be names of companies. It seems that picking any of the 4 options does not make a difference afterwards. Can someone shed light on what these 4 options are about? Thanks.

How do you find the latest updated Chinese Universal Firmware for PBO? I am still on V2SP3? Do they create a new thread for a new version at hdfans?
