Default trouble with updating wildfire via usb caddy

    Hey guys,

so I recently got the patriot 120GB wildfire for my macbook pro. The SSD I have stil has the 3.19 firmware, so I'm trying to update the firmware before I put it into my macbook.
So since I can't update the firmware on mac osx, I got a caddy (icybox) and put the wildfire in there and tried to use my friend's windows laptop to update the firmware.
Unfortunately, when I ran the updater on my friend's windows laptop, it didn't find the SSD, which I'd connected via usb-caddy to the laptop.
i then tried again on a different friend's laptop, but that didn't work either.
So I googled a bit and seem to have found out that in order to update the firmware on the wildfire you have to have it installed as an internal drive, you cannot update it if it is in an external caddy...
is this true? is there a way for me to update the firmware some other way?
    Any help would be appreciated

Hey, so today I tried again using another friend's brand new laptop and then using the desktop computers in my university's library.
it's getting rather frustrating, anyone potentially have any other ideas outside of straight up building it into a windows laptop, reinstalling windows on it, updating the firmware, and then reformatting and putting it into the mac? I'd be raelly grateful, since right now the thing is just an expensive paperweight...

updating the drive through USB will not work. It should work through esata. Can you get your hands on a esata enclosure? You can also bootcamp windows 7 onto your mac and updating the firmware that way.

Other option is to install the drive into windows desktop computer as a secondary drive (via sata) and updating the drive that way.

ah ok, that sucks esata plugs aren't very common right? or is there a way around that, for example by using an adapter or something? thanks for the help so far!

If you do not have any esata enclosure and do not want to spend any money. I would recommend doing the bootcamp method, I am sure one of your friends has a windows 7 install disk or usb to lend you.

ok, so i am currently booted in windows on my early 2008 white macbook. i am saying this because now i can update the firmware, and it gives me the "swoosh" thing at teh end to say it succesfully updated. however it still says firmware 319 when i "rescan" or check again after restarting. what"s the problem now?
I was told to change something in the bios, but I don"t know how to do that on a mac and what exactly to do, (soryyyy) to get that problem fixed on a macbook. i knwo how ot get into the bios on a normal windows computer, but that doesn"t seem to work here....how do I do it?

Sorry I should of asked what version macbook you are using. The updater tool has trouble on older chipsets. We are trying to resolve the compatibility issues but I be honest it is not on the top of the list. The option in BIOS you are referring to is probably AHCI mode. I do not know if your macbook supports that feature. I will do my best to find a solution but as of right now, you know anyone with a later model macbook pro 2010 or 2011? A new PC with P55 chipset or newer and AMD 880 and newer? We can also assist you getting your drive to us and we can update the firmware for you.

Ok, so I just tried to use a BRAND NEW macbook pro (less than a week old), which I managed to borrow from a very, very good and (too?) trusting friend. Installed mac OS x, then installed windows 7. copied the updater to the desktop, ran "as administrator" and clicked on update. everything went through and I got the "swoosh" thing again. rescanned and it still says 319. what do I do now?

That is really strange, I am working with my engineer team to find out what might be the cause but before we go any further on this issue. Let's first get you a drive with updated firmware so you can start using it and then we will move forward on troubleshooting this issue. I will PM you with info on what to do.
