    I am having a problem with my ram. I has been working fine except when i go into my system properties it says i only have 2.5GB as well as in the task manager. Cpu-z reports the 4gb and memtest is clean of errors but why is windows only reporting 2.5GB

    Gigabyte G31M-S2L
    Core 2 Duo E4400
    4GB Patriot PC2-6400 Ram
    XFX Geforce 8600 GT w/512MB Ram
    500GB SATA 3GB/s

    It depends on if you have the 64bit edition or 32bit edition of windows. for the 32bit edition in windows it will show you any where form 3GB to 3.75GB of memory installed in the system that you have but in bios or cpu-z if it shows you that you have all 4GB installed then your using all 4GB. That is a limitation of what the windows os is able to show you. But you will not have the same issues if you have a 64Bit edition of windows installed. If you have 4GB of memory installed then in windows it will show you that you have all 4GB installed.
