    Default Dropbox Slideshow

Does anyone know if there is a way to display a slideshow from Dropbox using the PBO? It looks like they are using some sort of Flash facility to display photos - I thought since YouTube and a few other Flash-based media systems were possible, that the Dropbox slideshow might also be possible.

I do not see any option on dropbox to display a slideshow; can you be more specific ???? Is this option on the dropbox installation on your computer or a selection on their web interface ???? If you have dropbox installed on your computer can you not share the dropbox folder (created by the installation to sync to dropbox server) and use the network tab on the PBO to access the file on the dropbox ???? You could then use the slideshow option of the PBO.

Good luck and let me know if such an option exist on their web interface; if it only exist from you dropbox installation software then the software probably just access the file on dropbox sequentially and display them on your computer. I'll look into it a little more with the dropbox installation that I have on my computer, however I have the linux version installed and I can only assume that you have the window version which is more common.

    Cheers !!!

Dropbox has a "Photo" folder that allows for a public slide show of whatever is in it. It comes with the standard installation. You just create a new folder inside of "Photo", right click on that folder and choose "Copy Public Link". You'll get a link that anyone can use to look at the photos in that folder as a slideshow.

Ok I just looked at it; it's actually a web page with links to your photos and a javascript running the actual slideshow. The only thing you could do would be to build a script to scrape that page to extract the links for the pictures and then display them using some kind of custom made RSS feed.

If you only want that option so that you can view the photos from dropbox on your TV screen and have the dropbox software installed you can just share the dropbox folder or (just the photo album you are interested in) and all the files on the dropbox will be available to your PBO NET tab /workgroup for your viewing pleasure.

I just did it on my computer and it took a whole 10 sec (right click on folder (dropbox) and selected the share option). Folder was then visible on the PBO and accessible. I am using linux but I don't think it will be any harder on a windows machine.

    Cheers !!!

Thanks for the suggestion and the test. Linux user here as well - I'll give it a shot. The main reason that wasn't my first choice was that my plan was to take the PBO to our yacht club and connect to the wifi network there, sucking the pictures off the DropBox web site and displaying them on the screens of our big-screen TVs. We start the Pan Am games here next week, and as the host yacht club, I want to be able to show pictures daily of what happened that day as an ongoing slide show. I think what I'll do is share that photo folder with one of the club's PCs, then set up windows sharing.

Thanks again for your attention and your quick responses.
