Default Sandforce and chipset comparison? Firmware Q.

Getting a Wildfire shipped to me now.
Obviously I've seen the issues with the Sandforce 2281 all over the web. I'm not so concerned as to not buy one of these, for a couple reasons. When specs are even bothered to be listed, most all problems I've seen are on motherboards with Intel chipsets, the Marvell controller has been suspect here too I believe.
Not a fanboy but I know from my looking into ssds, that the Intel Toolbox wouldn't work on AMD chipsets at least in the articles from that time. Also then AMD ahci drivers wouldn't play nice and the msft ones were "suggested".

So since I'm running an AMD 990FX chipset I'd like to know if v3.20 and newer firmware are modified for issues with any particular brand of controller or chipset? Should I just keep the factory firmware (until I possibly get issues) or update the 120 GB Wildfire from my current rig before I even install win7 on it.

Using an ASUS Crosshair V, either hooking up to the AMD or Asmedia SATA III connectors. If you've got an experience with either of those let me know.
    Thanks

It is not a compatibility issue with chipsets. It is seem more on Intel chipsets because majority of users are Intel chipset based systems. Once you receive your new drive it is recommended to check the version firmware it has as it might still be on 3.1.9 and update it to 3.2.0.

    Thanks for that.
I think I should have worded that differently, like I interact nicely with some folks and not as well with others. ha!
Yep with Intel being faster that makes sense.

    * Since you're a mod could you change the title to comparisons instead of compatibility?

Got excited like a kid on Nov. 1 with a pillowcase full of candy when it got here.
Wiped my hdds without saving v3.20 firmware. No problems at all, using the AMD 11.8 AHCI drivers. Have been busy so it took three days to rebuild. Let it idle with hdd sleep set to 0 in pwr options in between bouts of installs. I don't want to upgrade the firmware right now. Hope I haven't jinxed myself. There is a noticeable sotp (Seat of the pants) (I like fast cars too) difference in my rigs speed. I had two VelociRaptors in Raid 0 days ago.

So you are saying you are enjoying the performance of your new purchase?

I was enjoying it before it was even out of the box!
The "noticeable difference" is all good. With my raided VRaptors my average reads were 160MBs burst read to 428MBs. Used HDTach for that. Haven't tested with the ssd yet but its easy to 'feel' the increase in speed. None of the bad associated with SF 2281 has happened at this point. Got a copy of HDTune will do that soon.

I ran HDTune last night, and while I can see why I feel my pc is faster the results don't seem high enough. Were the default settings good for this tool? Should I give atto my info to get their program?
    Any input appreciated.

*I put pc specs at my profile.

Hello there.. you might be able to get even faster read/write speeds?
    give this a try.....

    go to main bios page
    select MB Intelligent Tweaker
    select Advanced Frequency Settings
    select Advanced CPU Core Features
from the Advanced CPU Core Features menu screen, find the option C3/C6 State Support (towards the bottom of the menu)
the default setting for C3/C6 State Support is [AUTO]...change the setting for C3/C6 Support to [DISABLED]
press F10 to save changes and exit bios
    Re-test your SSD speeds.
The Patriot fellas are testing this as a solution now,on the Gigabyte forums it seems to be an accepted solution.. my read write speeds and another member here..read/write speeds improved 10 to 15% and so far I have had no adverse effects.

Thanks B G aren't those sleep modes at the hardware level? I did the cmd - powercfg -h off right after install. I'll give it a try and re-test later today after some idle time. Ten + % is a serious increase in anybodys quest for making their pc faster. Seriously considering v3.2.0 for possible performance benifits. That's the first thing Patriot_VL reccomended to me & everyone else.
