Thread: Torqx2 64GB freezes Acer AspireOne 751h

    Default Torqx2 64GB freezes Acer AspireOne 751h

I installed the Torqx2 64GB SSD last Thursday in my Acer AspireOne 751h. Then I wanted to install Windows 7, but when the installation program wants to format the SSD, my Netbook freezes with hdd light permanently on. I solved this problem as installed the SSD in my Desktop PC an partitioned and formated the ssd. Then I could complete the Windows 7 installation. The SSD now works so far but my Netbook freezes when Windows update were installed. And after I run the AS SSD Benchmark tool my system freezes too. Is there any firmware update available which solves this problem?

    My System:
    Acer AspieOne 751h
    Intel Atom Z520
    2 GB RAM

    Cheers

The Torqx2 has the lastest frimware available for it already. Did you check for BIOS update? Also do you have an option for sata mode in BIOS from IDE to AHCI? I know its a netbook so your BIOS option might be very limited.

The Netbook has the latest Bios update and I can't change the sata mode from IDE to AHCI as you already thought. The Bios is totally limited. At the moment all works, no freezes. CrystalDiskMark runs and after the benchmark the Netbook doesn't freeze like it does when I run the AS SSD Benchmark. But I don't know how long it will last.

Can you let your system idle over night. Disable sleep mode/hibernation and set your hard drive to never sleep in control panel. Let garbage collection and trim apply onto the drive and test it the next morning.

I will try that. Garbage collection and Trim does the SSD by itself? Or do I have to run a tool to do that?

I let the netbook idle for about 22 hours no freezes :-). Then I set the enegry settings to standard and rebooted the system. After that I started the AS SSD Benchmark. After it finished I tried to close the tool and then the HDD-Light gets on and the system freezes.

Garbage collection and Trim runs in the background. So just having your system on idling, not going to sleep or hibernation mode will do the trick.

At this time let us get the drive replaced to rule out as it being a faulty drive. See if you can go to the retailer from where you purchased it from to get it replaced or follow the instructions below to go through us.

The strange thing is that ATTO and the CrystalDiskMark Benchmarks are running without any freezes. I already contacted the retailer regarding the SSD, but I have no answer until now (bought it over Amazon Marketplace). It seems to be that only the AS SSD Benchmark and the Windows 7 Installation have problems with freezes. I also can format the SSD with NTFS using GParted without any freezes. If the Windows 7 Installation tool tries to format the SSD, my Netbook freezes.

Have you contacted or checked Acer forums to see if there are any known issues that you are experiencing? It does not make sense how it will just freeze like that.

Here is what I've found until now: http://www.sevenforums.com/installat...w-no-load.html
He had the same problem with Windows 7 Installation as I had. Maybe it is a Netbook problem... After I formated the SSD with my Desktop PC, as he did, I could install Windows 7 easily.

I posted here a question regarding the AspireOne 751h and SSD. But I have no answer until now.

At the moment my netbook is running great with Windows 7 (also the last 4 days). No freezes.
I will test my Netbook with various tools if the problem persists. But if the only problem is that
AS SSD Benchmark is freezing my system, I can live with that :-).
