Default Wildfire 120GB BSOD and Detection Issues, Marvell 9123

    Hi all,

I'm having a similar issue as many others who have posted on this board. I am running a 120GB Wildfire as my system drive, and am having problems where maybe once a day it will hang, then crash, requiring a hard reset before the drive is detected in BIOS again. I can't duplicate the issue, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Last BSOD I had stated "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR".

    Details:
    OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1
    Motherboard: Asus P7P55D-E Pro
SATA 3 Controller: Marvell 9123, driver version 1.0.0.1042

This is the latest Marvell driver available through Asus' website for my board. Same problem also occurs when running through the Intel SATA 2 controller.

For kicks, here are my ATTO results:

I'm pretty sure it's the Marvell controller which is bottlenecking the drive.

Please try these drivers and see if it improves your stability issues. (located at the bottom of the page)

sadly if his system is anything like mine updating the drivers will not fix the BSOD's. Mine occur about once or twice a day when using the computer. I am also seeing ATTO speeds like yours.

    Hi Patriot_VL,

I updated my Marvell driver to 1.2.0.1003 as you requested. It's too early to state anything about stability issues, but I've taken significant losses in the performance department. I ran the benchmark multiple times to make sure if it wasn't a fluke, but they all show similar trends:

I will continue to use these drivers to report on their stability, however.

For now try to let your system idle, do not let it go into sleep or hibernation mode. This will give it a chance to garbage collect and also see if your system will BSOD.

My system generally stays on 24/7 for Folding@Home anyway, should I disable that for one night?

Yes, please do that and allow your system go idle but make sure the hard drive does not go to sleep mode.

    Updated to firmware v3.2.0

To note though, I hadn't had any BSODs or crashes since I updated my Marvell drivers to 1.2.0.1003. Letting it garbage collect overnight also recovered my read speeds to original levels.

I will keep an eye on system stability.

Edit: overeager and posted wrong performance stats accidentally.

I am glad to hear that all is working well. We all have to understand that SATA III is new technology and it might have some bugs still, as do all new tech when it comes out. In other words humans created the technology and humans are not perfect

Hope you enjoy the drive and please keep us updated.
