Angry TORQX 2 SSD poor performance

    Hi, Hope someone can help.

I have a new Torqx 2 SSD to which I restored a backup of Windows 7, but the performance figures shown via crystal diskmark are very low, i'm getting

    80MB sequential read - 30MB sequential write
    90MB read - 25MB write for 512k
    9MB read - 2MB write for 4k

Have tried to search for info, but no luck. Running firmware S5FAM007.

    Can anyone help ?

    Cheers

    ash123,

What is the make and model of your motherboard?

I would recommend flashing your motherboard to the latest bios, and applying the latest sata and raid drivers.

We recommend running the drive in AHCI mode.

Please apply the above and run an ATTO bench and let me know if this helps...

    Hi Ben,

    Motherboard = Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT UD2H

changed BIOS setting to run AHCI mode and the figures are much better getting 200MB read seq and 140MB write seq.

Guess figures will get better now as I use the system - so thanks for sorting this Ben

Hi again, although the figures read better on ATTO, am still not sure they are optimised for this SSD.

AHCI is enabled with the latest AMD drivers.

is there a simple way of uploading a screenshot from ATTO to show the figures am getting ?

Yes, when you hit reply... look in the character box in the above icons. There should be an 'insert image' icon which you can use to upload images from your computer.

Also forgot to ask: what size capacity is your drive?

The benchmarks we advertise for this speed is tested on Intel P67 boards.

However, shoot me your capacity, and your screens. I will ping our Flash Engineers to see what is expected for your particular platform (or similar).

I also want to reiterate to please double-check specifically that the latest AMD SATA drives are enabled. This should make a huge difference.

i have tried to add screenshot, but I need to add a url rather than a path to where the image is on my computer. Have also tried attachments link and that doesn't seem to work ?

    Drive is 32GB

I have double checked that AMD SATA drives are enabled.

Just wondering if my restore of Win7 onto this drive, rather than a clean install may have something to do with it ?

Sorry, I gave you the instructions for Image Hosting from the web...

In the hit reply screen, go to 'advanced' and then 'manage attachments.' From here, you should be able to attach a file from your computer.

Yes after switching to AHCI, we would recommend a fresh install. Please try this and let me know if the scores increase.

Try a clean install with no restored backup as a test. Its possible that the sector alignment of the partitions is off, which can cause a crippling loss in performance.

Delete ALL partitions, restart the installer, create a new partition and let windows install on it.

I am happy to help, but don't PM me. Post a thread in the appropriate forum so others may benefit and offer assistance.
Your lack of planning is not an emergency on my part.

after some difficulty trying to upload an image please see attached.

The figures don't mean much to me, and the performance is far better than the initial performance problem, but am not sure if my SSD is running in an optimised state ?

my other question is why crystal diskmark is giving me a very different figure of 150MB seq read and 30 MB seq write ?

I didn't really want to reinstall windows again from scratch, but if you feel it would benefit then I can try that over the next few days.

    thanks again for your help
