    Default Drive wasted space

I have installed a single WD 2TB (WD20EARS) drive into my NAS. When formatted to EXT2 or EXT3, I have about 93GB of wasted space! Is this normal?

I do not experience this issue when formatting to FAT32, however its not suitable due to the 4GB limitation.

Has anyone else experienced this issue

The space is not wasted. EXT2 and EXT3 both use what is called 'reserved blocks'

By default, it is 5%, and the system uses it to prevent a cold hard crash and data loss when space runs out on the drive.

EXT2 and EXT3 were both designed to be more resilient than FAT32. EXT3 even goes so far as to add 'journaling' to ensure the drive can be recovered, even if it is turned off during a write.

So its not a bug, its intentional.

Your lack of planning is not an emergency on my part.
