JP1.x remotes can be programmed without a cable. Having a cable makes it easier to program and the process more flexible, but it is not required.
Anyone who delves into playing with firmware, or media files like those who come here should have no problem.
The problem is that there aren't as many JP1 remotes readily available at retail as there used to be.
Sweet, I had no idea the PBO recovery cable would work for this.
Still, think of the sleek euro-styling and high performance of the genuine PBO remote. The ergonomics, the logical button layout, lightning fast response, the logo-free design... there is no substitute for the real deal. LOL. But seriously, my remotes are basically unused, sitting in a drawer. So if one is wanted/needed...
The same USB-TTL cable may work if it has the RESET or RTS wire. In other words, the 3-wire or 4-wire versions may not work. See this forum for how to use the USB-TTL cable to program J1.3 universal remotes. After all, considering the last deal of PBO at $36AR, it may be easier to buy another one. Then you'll get another PBO remote to train a learning remote in a easy way and have a second PBO box.
