Default video files missing from PBO menus but visible via PC?

I have been loading video files of various formats to my PBO and playing sucessfully. But now some of those files are no longer visible in the PBO menus, but when I hook up the PBO to my PC via USB, I can see and play all the files. They have not been deleted just invisible in the PBO menus. Anyone seen this before?
I have the latest firmware installed.
    Thanks all.

I had the same issue before just go into the folder that has the missing movies and highlight them/right click and share the files..
Sometimes the PBO fails to capture all the files..
    It worked for me..
    Hope it helps

I have a similar experience. I think the PBO and PC read different file name records of the same file, a kind of like the case in Mac. When I copy files on PBO to an external drive, I cannot see those files in another media player. If I copy the files on a PC, then I can see the files in both players.

When you copy files to an NTFS drive, Windows handles the permissions depending on where the file is copied to and what permissions did it cary from the start.

Here is the article from Microsoft that deals with copying and moving files:

Well, the files were not copied through Windows, but in PBO. It is on NTFS volumes though. If I copy the files in Windows, I actually don't have that problem.

Yes, that is why the problem is there. When files are copied from one NTFS to another NTFS Volume, Files permissions stays the same if the Destination Volume has similar settings applied to the Root folder and no explicit permissions were applied. So, the lower level folders inherits the permissions that are applied to the Root + if you explicitly apply additional permissions to it. It carries both the inherited and the explicit. Since all NTFS Volumes/drives are formatted the same and not too many people play around with default permissions, is the reason when a pc is used to copy/move everything stays the same and identical. But when files are copied from a different OS or Files system to NTFS, then the permissions on those copied files are at the discretion of the destination folder restrictions.

It still does not make sense. The files that copied in PBO and cannot be seen on another media player are visible in Windows. In other words, it is not a permission issue but file listing.

I think that using NTFS on the PBO is not a good idea especially on an old kernel like the one on the PBO linux build. I loss many files on my PBO USB hard drive and had to run ntfsfix (availble on the PBO (telnet)) on many occasions to fix issues with my NTFS USB Drive and HDD Drive. NTFS is not native to linux and obviously there are some issues with it. I understand the need for NTFS for the PBO considering how many people are using window but I think that realtek would have been better off including a utility/driver to allow window to read/write to EXT3 vs using NTFS for storage.

There are a post on ACryan about creating 4 partition on the HDD:
    1) small NTFS
    2) EXT 3 /tmp/hdd/root
    3) linux swap
    4) Large EXT3 for storage

The small NTFS partition keeps the PBO/ARCBO/MEDEBO happy from wanting to format the HDD every time it boots up. Has for the USB storage I suggest that EXT3 be used and install an utility like this one on your window machine to be able to read/write to the PBO HDD (Connected via small USB cable to PC) or your EXT3 Formatted USB Drive.

    Cheers !!!

I have trouble coping files to a USB ext3 drive on PBO. It just shows an empty progress bar without any activity. I have no problem in reading files from it though. Any suggestions?
