    Default MKV no video

    Hello all,

Received my PBO today and was all excited to test out the different file types that it supports over my wireless network and all went well until I got to certain MKV's which only played the audio and no video.

Now I've looked around on these forums for an answer and found some possible solutions like using mkclean but to no avail that did not fix the problem.

I'm running the latest firmware p61-r2 which I was under the impression that it was supposed to fix this problem??

Anyways here is the media info for the MKV that is giving me the problems.

If anyone has any ideas or can tell me if it's something that will have to be fixed with a firmware update would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I followed this thread to solve the problem. I am using mkvmerge in mkvtoolnix to turn off the compression to make it to play in PBO. See this post.

    That didn't work unfortunately.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

Does it play on a computer? I wonder if there is a problem with that particular file. I have fixed 2 mkv by remuxing in mkvmerge. It does take some time for each file though.

Yes, it works perfectly fine using VLC on the computer.

I read on another post about using ACRBO European 4824 image firmware for this problem. Would that be safe for me to attempt?

If you get the one from aasoror's makeover link or from the new wiki page for new links to everything. Do NOT any images from other vendor sites and apply them or they will brick the player.

If this is the header compression problem, you can try mkWDclean
[*]Still new..? check the wiki. [*]Your shares gone for no reason ? Create a machine shortcut. [*]Trashing the G-adapter? upgrade cheaply to N. [*]Getting the hang of it? get organized .. add share shortcuts. [*]Getting sick of it ? it never hurts to rant here [*]Wishing for the time machine? give your PBO a makeover. Alright so to update on what I've tried that hasn't worked is:

    - Using mkWDclean on the file

    - Using MKVMerge to turn compression off

    - Finally using ACRBO European 4824 image from the PBO wiki page which I might add has a very nice layout.

So 0 for 3 right now.

Does the MediaInfo tell you anything that could be a problem?

    Thanks again.

Indeed it does, I am sorry I replied the first time without throughly checking your post.

The video formate used is VP6 which is a proprietary codec, as far as I know there is no legal way to get it for free and I would doubt RT would pay any royalties for the decoder.

I am afraid there is no way around this but recoding.
