    Default UPnP issue

In checking out the great new script for PlayOn, TV Channel Pack I realized an old UPnP issue is back (at least for me) -- I remember this issue a few firmwares back

When scrolling through PO's different content providers, then choosing and opening one, the PBO freezes temporarily when trying to choose an episode or certain date if it happens to be a news program and won't free up for a few moments or until the preview starts or the file name is displayed to the right side of the screen under the preview window

And this issue occurs whether the preview feature is turned on or off in the PBOs' settings

This happens in P61 and the P61 mega - I flashed from 4318 to the P61 mega, but I seem to remember that this issue occured in 4318, but not 100% certain

I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing this in P61 or P61 mega - and if using a different frmw and 'not' experiencing it, what frmw(s) does the issue not occur with

I like the P61 mega and intend to stay on it -- maybe I can flash my other PBO to one of the 'other' newer frmws that this is not happening with, and use that box/frmw when planning on using PlayOn

Thanks lickity - I may have to try the Medebo

FYI - the issue's not specific to PO - the built in UPnP of Windows 7 also shows the same issue - only with video content though -- accessing audio/music doesn't experience the freezes when scrolling through any songs/music in the folder

Does the Medebo frmw have to be flashed from a specefic other firmware, P02 maybe, or is that another frmw I'm thinking about?

Yup, you are thinking about the semi-official megapack.

for what it is worth. I flashed mine over from acr "special firmware" to the latest medebo "special firmware". I use win7 64 bit with a amd quad core proc, etc, etc, etc. I'm running hard wired through my lan, not wireless and using an old tried but true linksys router.
so that's the details of my setup.
hope this helps ya some and as always best of luck man.

Thanks aasoror - but if you are saying that I have to flash to the megapack after 1st flashing P02 -- I actually flashed from 4318 directly to the P61 mega -- and don't see any issues - the menu/additional content is much different than P61 on my other PBO -- and I don't know for sure, but I doubt my UPnP freezing issue has been caused by this, since I've seen it before in an earlier frmw before th P61 or the P61 mega was available

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same 'freezing' issue I'm seeing when scrillong through video content/eps/dated news casts in PlayOn, W7's UpnP access and/or any other UPnP server

No I am not saying that, I am saying you will need to go P02 before going from official to semi-official and the other way around. Custom firmware doesn't require that, and consequently custom firmware to mega-packs and back.

I have just tested it, on PBO P61 megapack I am getting the usual lag to buffer for preview.
On my windows 7 machine I am accessing Playon through boxee, and I can scroll (the TV pack plugin) without a problem, usual lagging due to buffering once I press enter on a certain feed, but not prior to that.

My playon comes from 300n wireless and streams perfectly fine to my pbo's so it can run on wireless but both the pbos are hard wired where the real problem lies with throughput.

If your talking about the player not responding for 4-5 seconds before starting the stream in preview then yes you are experiencing the buffer lag. this is a built in "feature" of preview. i get that when i try to play a movie from the hdd although the lag is shorter for hdd access. unfortunately the streams don't seem to work without preview. i have found that you can get the player to cancel the preview by pressing the stop button. hope this helps...

With medebo I disabled the preview and no hanging at all until I choose to play one of the links and then the usual lag for buffering happens but it works just fine. Before I disabled the preview it was hanging horribly because of the preview and almost impossible to scroll through the menus but again after disabling it all works perfectly.

On a personal note I find the preview stuff annoying except the fact of whether or not it shows invalid file alerts there before actually trying to play something but not worth all the other hangs and annoyances it brings to the plate. So mine is disabled and will stay that way for the duration of the player's life.
