thanks snappy. i was about to reflash anyways. so instead of P70R2 which one do you suggest? I am interested only in IMS services and youtube and access to my home drive. I do not care about media wall and all those fancy stuff. Also i am not keen on buying an internal HDD

This specific firmware requires a hdd to have all the goodies including YouTube. If you main interest is with IMS there is a firmware that is pretty good but I never tried it myself. Here's the link: http://www.pborus.hostzi.com/1_29_ENGLISH.html . I don't think that you need a hdd with that firmware. Not sure really. Other than that I think that some of the customized megapack work ok also.

I am afraid that I am not that familiar with firmware other than official and semi official; maybe soneone else might have other suggestions.

    Cheers!!!

It has been mentioned on the acryan site that you can workaround using a USB stick as follows:

Although it's mentioned in changelog, I'll try to explain a little bit further using PlayOn!X firmware on PlayOn!HD Mini! (and other media players without internal hard disk).

You must have at least one ext3 partition on USB disk. NTFS partition is optional - if found, it will be used instead of ext3 for RSS pack. In any case, total size of partition(s) must be at least 400 MB.

When you are ready (prepared USB disk is connected to media player), execute once /usr/local/etc/mountS file to check if it found your partition(s). Symlink /home and directory /tmp/hdd/root/ should follow to the right partition(s).

After successful testing, you can install packs (Optware + RSS) and enable automatic executing of /usr/local/etc/mountS in /usr/local/etc/myS start-up file.

bloemkool has prepared sample package to use USB disk instead of internal HDD: modfiles.tar. See playonX.txt file inside package for detailed instructions .

However, I am stuck at the first step in figuring out how to partition a USB into both NTFS and ext3. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has been able to get YT without an internal HDD and if so, how?

You will probably need to run Linux in order to format a USB stick / drive; many live cd linux version available
Google is your friend. The rest of the procedure sounds good; as far as I know youtube with the modded firmware from mikka playon!x works fine. Sorry can not help anymore than that; I am still on vacation and do not have access to my player.

    Cheers!!!
