    Personally I think 3D is a waste of time and money at the moment. Companies need to concentrate greatly improving and making all HDTV's 1920 x 1080p standard. Once people jump onto the 1080p bandwagon then perhaps we can talk about 3D greatly excluding those ridiculous 3D glasses that are proven to give people headaches after a short period of using them.
    1080p = High Definition

    I have to disagree, manufacturers would be stupid to phase out 720p now simply because : there is still a huge demand on them even with fixing the price tag for last couple of years and they allow them to keep the prices of the 1080p sets 60hz up.

    On the other hand, its the consumers who are stupid to pay for 720p sets same price it would have cost them 2 years ago, just remember the BF deals and people lining up to pick these sets up.

    IMHO its the widespread of 3D for TV and similar technologies which would not run on 60hz sets (720p or 1080p) would be the only reason to help phasing out the 720p/1080p 60hz panel quickly.

    You see it once at a friend's, you like it and you then realize it wont run on the set you have at home (or the one you are planning to buy) whats the chance that your next purchase would still be a 720p set ?

    btw particularly speaking about 3D, its not really that pricey to acquire, all you need is any old CRT or DLP display (running at 85hz+) or any 100hz+ LCD, a moderately fast computer with stereoscopic hardware support or a fairly fast one for software emulation and a PC 3D adapter with glasses ($10~$20 off ebay) and you are all set.

    Sounds really good to have a 3D TV. At the moment they aren't worth it for the money. I went to Costco and saw some on display. The quality and feeling were great. But looking at the price of the glasses that they sold were around $400 for just a set. If I have more than two people at the house I will have to buy more glasses. Lets suppose I buy them from e-bay that Aasoror suggests, which by the way is a great price ($10-$20 each compare to the $200 each). I don't know if those glasses will work with all 3D TVs. The whole thing comes down how much you would spend for a that 3D toy. But I wouldn't want the manufacturer to phase them out. Let those people who likes to play with expensive toys play with them first. That will bring the price down and also have some of the bugs or problems out when I am ready to buy it. Besides, I saw a documentary about 3D TVs they're working on that does not require glasses! Great news. If they phase these out that require glasses, they might not have enough money for research and developement to have awsome 3D TVs in the next few years. We will have to wait longer and also pay more for them.

    No they wont, but the thing is you don't need a 3D-TV for my sketched solution to work, the 3D processing will be done by the PC and the syncing adapter I quoted above.

    All you need in this case is a display (TV or projector) that is able to do maintain a constant refresh rate, any CRT or DLP display can while only LCDs running at 100hz+ can do so.

    True. People who likes to experiment on how those 3Ds really work will probably do it your way. I would too. But thats why you're so good at what you do. You won't find too many people that want work on it. They rather pay others for an easy done right away thing.

    I have no desire for 3d and never been that big a fan of it to be honest....and according to articles I've read recently most europeans and north americans agree with me and aren't rushing to buy them even though prices have started to fall. Good thing is it drives down the price of all the regular tvs and now is making even the led models much more affordable which I am interested in buying due to lower power consumption and much less heat output and a brilliant picture.
