    I want my btpd back.

Seriously, I briefly tried rTorrent and transmission, their download performances were nowhere near that of btpd. I used to be able to download a 200 MB file in 30 minutes or less, now with transmission, it takes more than 3 hours. Furthermore, I found the download speed fluctuated a lot for no reason. The upload speed was very stable though.

Just downloaded a 100MB file in 15 minutes. Hopefully, btpd is back.

Well, there are at least 10 different firmware versions that you could have been running, but if btpd was your gem, then that only leaves one that was working good, and that would be PO2.

if you removed the btpd packages, you can oddly enough find them in the directory /usr/local/bin/Resources

    use ipkg-cl to re-install them.

if btpd is still installed, you can start the client with

    #/tmp/hdd/root/scripts/btpd start

    or

    #/tmp/hdd/root/btpd/bin/btpd -d /tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1/BT/

or what I found to be more stable

    #/tmp/hdd/root/btpd/bin/btpd --no-daemon -d /tmp/hdd/volumes/HDD1/BT/

Although, you may just want to look into some tunings or tweakings. I'm very happy with transmission.

    romei, thanks for your advice.

btpd was never removed from the PBO and in fact, I wasn't even able to kill it. Perhaps that was the reason for the sluggish performance of transmission and rTorrent. I haven't give up on those two clients yet, I will try to tweak them and make them work better for me.

Good to hear. I'm dloading a file right now through transmission at 154KB/s which is the best I've ever seen through any bt client on any platform.

There are many factors that affect the bt protocol. it's not always the client. Glad to see that you know that and are receptive to adjustments.

Stability is what counts for me. Transmission hasn't died since I've started it and for me, it's performance is top notch.

Its time to find yourself a decent broadband provider.
Any properly coded BT client should be able to max out your connection with enough peers on any platform (ISP throttling aside).

No problem here with regards to download speed for most torrent using transmission. I even had to change the download limit to 400 Kbs so I had some bandwidth left for other devices. Did you open port 51413 on your router ???? Transmission listening port.

As for the fluctuating download speed I believe this is just how transmission calculate the speed that makes it erratic; most other client consider a longer timespan to calculate download speed. Transmission running on a PC (Ubuntu) act exactly the same way with regards to reporting download speed.

    Cheers!!!!

On my linux box with ktorrent being fed from an rss feed so all downloads are automatic.....I get usually 500k all the way up to 800k where I set the ceiling so I can have a little bandwidth to browse with when I want to.

I live in the sticks. Sadly, there is only one option for a wired BB provider for me. 3 and 4G is not available and I've been down the satellite road before. This is as good as it gets here. :-(
