Unhappy Help, I need it so bad !!!!!!!

    Hi guys ,

I'm new with the PBO , I read a lot on the forum, but I can find the problem I have...

I get the PBO last Friday, from newegg for $49 after rebate, is brand new with wireless adapter and 4g usb mem.

I connect to the wireless, everything OK , I will star to set up the network to see the files, and the box get black screen after 5 minutes, I change for composite( a/v cables) and is the same, black screen , I leave for 5 minutes off I turn on and come up again for another 5 minute and black screen again.

I upgrade to PO4 and keep the same problem, when I'm upgrading take more than 5 minutes and not have problem, but when the box is running normal only work for 5 minutes and get a black screen.

Is an overheating problem.? Have a solution ? I need exchange the box ?

Also after upgrade say, Can't load from HDD, but I don't have a HDD inside the PBO, so I leave for 30 sec. and do the upgrade again automatically, and everything fine until the 5 minutes and get black screen no Mather what, HD or composite ( a/v) cable. The TV say no source, means is off, but the PBO is on, also remote control is useless, I press off and the PBO still on. Is like a brick, but no because I leave off for a wile and the PBO come alive for another 5 min.

" UPDATE: now when Im turn on the PBO the green light of pwr/STBY is on , and the light of LAN/ACC is in RED, and is like a BRICK now ."

Thanks for the advice, I read the forum and the PBO looks amazing, if works, the o!play feature, for streaming etc.

Also I know if I press pause and stop I will see the system firmware info, the boot code I have is 0000.0202.0026, means I have boot code 26 ???????? If i have an old boot code where I find boot code 18? and installation procedures. When I have the boot code 18, I can upgrade the last firmaware P61 , or I need install all the firmwares and at the end the P61 ??????

Also I see GPL file for upgrade, what is that?

In the forum I see too much things not well explained for newbies that make more confusing some thing, is like you leave for granted some issues and that make people like me ask lots of questions.

Also can tell me the steps/guides and upgrades to do and leave my PBO office tuned up with all the good features. Probably I need exchange, but I will give another chance and I not ask for refund yet.

    Thanks for the help!!!!!

Definitely look like a hardware problem if problem is consistent with various firmware. I recommend you exchange it.

Since you have a bootcode of 26 you can install any firmware you want. the bootcode 18 on the firmware simply means that you have to have at least bootcode 18 to install; since you have 26 you are ok.

Since part of the software uses GPL codes Patriot has to release that portion to the public because of licensing issues. That release is pretty useless since the main application running the PBO (Dvdplayer app) is not public domain.

Unfortunately it is difficult to evaluate the level of expertise of the various users. We do have a pretty good forum however and if you ask for clarification on some topic you can expect an answer to help you and others undertand.

Sorry to break it to you but currently it is not possible to run any firmware made for the asus O!Play on the PBO. This post you are referring to is a bit old. Since then patriot as somewhat step up to the plate and the features offered by their latest firmware is comparable to the one offered by the other player.

All the player's based on the 1073 chip (IC) (integrated Circuit in the PBO and other players) all have good things and bad things. I haven't found the perfect player yet. It is of course all about the firmware and what they offer and whether or not these features actually works. So far IMHO I thing that the PBO is a good bang for the buck; it is definitely one of the least expensive in that category right now.

    Cheers !!!

Better look ( well depends on your taste)
Improved navigation thru the GUI (Again depends on your taste)
Nice IMS were added (internet feeds) + the ability to add your own using the TV menu.

You can always read up on the change log of the various firmware version over over: http://patriotmem.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2131

Also aasoror has put together a bunch of customize firmware that can also be installed on the PBO. See these links: http://tinyurl.com/29c3qem

yeah sounds like you've had a faulty unit. You can either replace through newegg.. or go directly through us. Sorry to hear it though and hope you'll have fun with it (when the new unit arrives) .

Smile I get the new unit

    Hi Snappy
I get the new unit, the system info is:

    System revision: P020P0500A.
    KERNEL REVISION: 297165
    BOOTUP:26
    hw:RTD1073-DEMO

    Questions,

1)What firmware have my PBO.?? PO2 or PO5.???
    (Syst.rev.: P020P0500A.)

    2)To upgrade firmwares I can upgrade directly the last firmware P61 , or start with the next one I have, If I have PO2 , I need install PO3 , next PO3 next PO4 ... last P62????

    3)Any other advice??

Thanks Snappy , have a great day.

You have p05 go by the end of the string not the start. You can go to any version with bootcode you have.
