Memory was working perfectly for several months. One day the PC refused to POST, offering up a memory detection error. I removed both sticks, tried different configurations, and found that it would boot and run just fine. A week later the PC refused to recognize that stick, as well. I thought this was an odd way for memory to fail, but placing both sticks in a friend's PC elicits the same error, leading me to believe it's not a motherboard or processor issue.

    Any suggestions before I RMA?

Sorry. Meant to say that after the initial failure, I did get the system to boot with just one of the sticks, which then failed about a week later.
