Performance Formatting tool (Rage)

I am a new 16 GB Xporter (XT Rage) owner. I had read on the reviews on NewEgg that there is a performance formatter tool available, is that the same as the low level format utility posted in the sticky thread?

Sorry for the noob question, I tried searching, both here and with Google, I cannot find a download link.

It is similar to the general low level format tool, however it is designed to work specifically with the Rage Drive.

People not using FAT32 or Windows probably want to know.

It acts as a factory format and revert the drive back to FAT.

1. Do I need to use the (Performance Formatting tool) now before using the drive?
2. If I convert to NTFS , how much performance I am going to lose?

To answer your questions:

1) Unless you're getting something like writes 17-18MB/s then no, you do not. The tool is pretty much a low level format which you shouldn't use too often. It'll factory restore the drive, but excessive use is not recommended.

2) The drive is host-dependent, so it's hard to say how much performance you can lose. It could be anywhere from 1-5%.

Were you experiencing any issues with your drive?

If the blocks are corrupt we would recommend opening up a warranty case for the drive...
