If you're posting files that are muxed with MKVMerge, they won't be playable on many players if you're using the default settings of MKVMerge 4.1+. The workaround is to use MKVMerge 4.0 or, in newer versions, turn compression OFF on video and audio tracks. To do this:

    1. Select each track (video, audio, and subtitles)
    2. Select the Extra Options tab
    3. Set the Compression option to "none"
    4. Start muxing
I got this from another site and it work for me. Just run your file through mkvmerge with compression OFF.

Sounds like you may have found a fix for the guys cpyby - personally I don't have this issue -- I use MakeMKV to rip all my DVD/BDs to an MKV container and I'm done -- no further muxing or compressing because I leave all the rips as original coming out of MakeMKV - MakeMKV is on the quality level of AnyDVD HD and completely without issue for the many weeks/months I've been using it for free while in beta -- so free of issues I just purchased a license for it the other day

Yep I have had this with 2 recent Hubris mkv's, MacGruber and Prince of Persia. It sucks. Does this happen on AC Ryan?

As for muxing as a solution, I wouldn't call that a solution because the reason I bought a media player is to not have to mux. I could hunt down a way to convert mkv's to avi's and play them on a dumb dvd player with a usb port.

The thing is, when you download pirated content off the internet you don't have the luxury of choice You can only complain about your media player being "incompetent" ..
[*]Still new..? check the wiki. [*]Your shares gone for no reason ? Create a machine shortcut. [*]Trashing the G-adapter? upgrade cheaply to N. This is the compressed headers issue. While it has been an option to implement in MKV files for quite some time, it was not enabled by default in most encoders. Now it is a default option in an encoding utility frequently used by groups distributing video content.

A utility program exists to implement a temporary fix without having to completely re-encode them. It does not damage files, nor does it change them in such a way they are out of Matroska specs.

    http://www.matroska.org/downloads/mkclean.html

    Specifically:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/mat...5.zip/download

The mkwdclean utility is the one you are interested in.

I'm sure Patriot is aware, but a fix will PROBABLY have to come from realtek themselves. I suspect the ACRyan firmware, and most devices absed on this chipset, will suffer from this issue.

Yes, as a matter I took the liberty of finding and downloading your sample file After re-merging it, it plays fine in the PBO.

Mkvmerge GUI which can found in the MKVtoolnix tool kit will allow you to re-merge the file with just a few clicks of the mouse. I uncompressed the audio and the video portions by choosing "none" in the Compression setting under the Extra Options tab. Then press "Start muxing".

Actually this IS a firmware issue. I also own a FAT+ which has the same realtek chip and it plays some but not all of those files just fine. I tested nolajo's sample file and the FAT+ had no problem with it, but it did have the same problem with other mkv files. I am not sure, but it seems the FAT+ problem is more audio related.

How about passing it through the cleaner linked above ?

This is true, aasoror, but in the case of this sample file it definitely falls under the category of fair use which was recently upheld in US courts.

I think for most users a utility with a built-in windows gui is probably more convenient, aasoror, but it's clear everyone has a temporary choice to fix these vids until such time as PBO developers get on it.

    Edit:
For those comfortable using command line tools and working with batch files, here's a good explanation on how to use mkWDclean on an entire folder.
